Vegas at the Draft

Day 1 recap

Connor Geekie C – 13th Overall – 6’4” 203 lbs - Big Two-way Power forward with 1\2 line upside.  Needs to improve on skating but has the size and skill for the NHL.  Expecting him to play for Tucson Roadrunners in the 23-24 season with a few call ups when injuries.

Tye Kartye C\LW – 45th Overall – 6’1” 198lbs - Goal scoring winger with size.  Passed over in the NHL draft Kartye signed with Kraken last year and hasn’t looked back.  28g 29a for 57pts in the first year in AHL.  Kartye got his first taste of NHL action in the NHL playoffs this year and didn’t look out of place.  Scoring 2 goals and 2 assists in 10 games.  Look for him to start with the Kraken this year baring any Free Agent signing.

Niklas Kokko G - 46th Overall – 6’3” 185 lbs - Another Kraken pick.  Kokko is a quick goalie that stays up and uses his speed to cover the bottom half of the net.  Kokko is a work in progress but is expected to play in the AHL for Coachella Valley Firebirds after recently signing his ELC with the Kraken.

Alexander Perealov LW – 61st Overall – 6’0” 185 lbs - Perealov a Canes pick.  (Can you go wrong with a Canes pick?)  Perealov is a offense first winger.  Good vision and great puck skills.   Needs to improve on his defensive play like most Russians.  27 games in KHL last season scoring 2 goals and 1 assist as a 19 year old.  should see him in KHL again this year.

Devin Kaplan RW – 71st Overall 6'2" 198lbs – Was a bit surprised to see Kaplan available still.   Two-way winger but needs to improve on foot speed.  Is someone we might see on the USA WJ team this year.

Adam Engstrom D - 77th Overall 6’2” 185 lbs – Mobile defense who skates well and makes a good first pass.  Knows when to pick his spot on when to jump into the rush.
