32 THOUGHTS - Thoughts 17 to 24 (Metro Division)
Literally a description of the first thought to come to my simple little mind when I hear these teams mentioned...
Just the same old Joe – Points in 22 of 23!? I thought Ken had this division locked up, but Old Faithful Joe has gotten hot. I had the same concerns for Joe that I had for Eric D, and that was that skyrocketing contracts would cripple him, but he’s maneuvered nicely around them. Dubas/Treliving could take notes from these guys. As usual, the sim darling, Sasha Barkov, has been leading the way.
Likable Larry – A retool gone right is definitely what describes the past year or so for Larry. I thought having his own Slack channel might distract him from giving the appropriate TLC to his team that is required when running a BRHL team, but he’s found a way. Larry’s sticking near the top of his division, all while trimming the dead weight (old players) from his roster and bringing in lots of youth and upside.
The RHP Show – I don’t really even know who Rafael Harvey-Pinard is, but somehow, he is a point a game player taring up the sim. Well, he is not the sole reason Kenneth has surprised this season, he’s getting all the attention for it. At least the attention from my small brain when trying to fathom reasons why the sim does what the sim does.
Flyers and more Flyers – If you’re watching a Philly game, are impressed with one of their young players, and decide to look up who owns him… The answer is probably Tony. So, you probably won’t be able to land that young stud/prospect for your team as he’s a massive Flyers fan. And if that player is on another roster, rest assured you won’t be getting him either because Tony probably tried already!
Phantom Jennings – Aka (PJ) for short. Or just “the ghost”. The Slack channels aren’t frequented often by PJ, but he does monitor his team and graciously responds to the trade chatter that heads in his direction. One of the GM’s I’d love to see take it to Sumit during free agency as he’s got the spending power to do so.
Brother, Cousin, Uncle Rich – What to say here. Definitely the GM who’s suffered the most from the randomness of Simon T this season. He just landed a haul for the aging / not-rated-as-well-as-he-used-to Patrice Bergeron, which was great to see. Winning trades for his veterans though comes with a silver lining/bittersweetness considering he doesn’t have his 1st anymore. But, again, situations like this add intrigue for the rest of the league.
The Pitiful Pittsburgh Penguins – Winning a bit more than he obviously hoped he would, will Toby’s affection for Nico Hischier cost him Connor Bedard? If only that anti-tanking rule wasn’t in place and Hischier could be benched. Even without Bedard, Toby should land a nice piece to add to the prospect cupboard. Though will he ever actually go for it when the time is right? It’ll be difficult for him to do so as he loves the young’uns.
Re-Construction of Columbus – Jesse had built quite the team full of big names, but he decided to tear things down. Either because building from the ground up is fun, or because he figured he just didn’t quite have enough to put him over the top. His moves have come gradually throughout the season and I like them all. I’m glad he shared a RWer with me (Kempe), even though he didn’t pan out for my roster.
