32 THOUGHTS - Thoughts 25 to 32 (Atlantic Division)

Literally a description of the first thought to come to my simple little mind when I hear these teams mentioned...

Retained Red Wings – What do I think of my team? I’ve now had 2 great regular seasons, sandwiching an epic 1st round playoff falter. (You’d think it’s like 5 of them the way people chirp). LOL.  This year EP and Thompson can’t click with any RWers, so that could be the achilles if it doesn’t get sorted out.  The trade deadline wish in Detroit is either a PP QB or a winger to click with EP and Tage.

The Stellar Sabres – Mr Jared Mitchell’s retool/rebuild has been quicker than most imagined.  A couple of solid fee agent signings along with the absolute fleecing of our good friend Sumit to land Dylan Larkin, has put Jared in a great spot.   Always the life of the Slack chat, he’s proven to have extensive knowledge of the sport meaning the rest of us in the Atlantic always have to stay on our toes.

Shutdown Steve – I’ve never crunched the actual numbers to see who regularly ices the most defensive team, but my guess would be Mr Vardy.  He’s always been solid in the playoffs, at least since I’ve been here, meaning he’s usually a dark horse to go deep.  He’s got some very average looking goaltending on paper right now, so we’ll see if that’s what he rides or dies with down the stretch.

The Recently Relevant Panthers – Tyler himself recently announced that he’s relevant again (aka, going for it).  There are enough tankers this season so that was a welcome announcement for all to hear.  Even for his division rivals, unless he starts eliminating them come April.   His goal differential has been well behind his team’s record all season long, but because that is usually an indicator of strong coaching/team management, expect the wins to continue along with more tweaking.

Ferraro’s Fun Team – Eric runs his team much how I would like to run mine if I could first land a championship.  He’s competitive while still sporting a wealth of young and up-and-coming talent.  A lot of trades for big names this season haven’t panned out for teams, but Point for him has been fantastic.  He’ll be in tough come playoffs, but it’s all gravy when you’ve got the likes of Geekie, Laf, Tolvanen, Power, Sanderson, Faber etc in the wings.

Hansford the Hockey Insider – Eight games over “NHL” .500 currently lands you inside the BRHL’s Eastern playoff picture.  Garrett is 6 over.   He’s definitely in tough, but has his 2024 1st.   If I’m Garrett, I’m making some big decisions within the next few games on my team’s direction this season.  Maybe while he’s at it, he can put the bug in the ears of the real-life Leafs to do the same.

The Bearish Bruins – The SLOW rebuild is well underway in Beantown.  It’s probably slower than most due to a few reasons.  1) Greg is still within striking distance of a postseason spot, 2) Greg is much cooler than us and probably has lots of social functions to attend, and 3) He doesn’t own his 1st.   I expect more of a gut job to occur, in, or at least closer to, the offseason.

Steph’s Sputtering Sens – We finally come to a bad Atlantic team that we can rag on.  Oh, the tire fire that is the Ottawa Senators… both in real-life and the BRHL.  In all fairness to Steph, he has a lot going on these days like babysitting Toby and following the NFL playoffs.   Robertson, Drysdale, and Brady T will likely be on an island for a couple years until the other prospects mature, though a Connor Bedard would bridge that gap scrumptiously.
