2024 MOCK DRAFT (Part 1)
The Rumpy Draft
1. Los Angeles Kings - Our man Rumpy's Tankathon 2024 worked out just as he'd planned. CONNOR BEDARD is clearly a generational player, so look for Rumpy to proudly strut his way to the podium to select him 1st overall. No ifs, ands, or buts.
2. Anaheim Ducks - Is LEO CARLSSON the best selection Dev could make here? I don't think anyone knows for certain, but I think we know for certain he will take Carlsson right here. He's a very good all-round player that has shown tons of maturity for his age and is likely the best of all the Ducks loaded prospect core.
3. Ottawa Senators - After seeing the new and improved Sens GM absolutely gut house, I think I'm pretty convinced who he's taking here. Given that Tkachuk and Robertson aren't even that old, and he sent them packing quicker than I did Greg in round 1 of our playoffs, tells me that Brayden is a patient man and that MICHKOV is without a doubt the play here.
4. Vegas Golden Knights - This essentially leaves Joe at number 4 with ADAM FANTILLI as the likely BPA here. I think he's definitely a Joe-type of player, possessing size, speed, and skill. I don't think he'll be passing on everything that Fantilli brings to the table here. He is still potentially a franchise player, which is not common to land at a number 4 selection.
5. Winnipeg Jets - There are a few different routes that I think Doc could go here. I believe that WILL SMITH is his target, and I can't argue with the choice. He dominated with Boston College last year and made everyone else around him look like superstars. He's a true line-driver and will be a great piece for both Doc's Jets and the NHL's Sharks to build around.
6. Chicago Blackhawks - Our man Dave is now up with pick number 6. I see DMITRI SIMASHEV getting snagged up very quickly at this point of the draft. He forced his way into full-time minutes in the KHL and was maybe the league's most dominant two-way defender. He moves effortlessly for a big man, while imposing his will on all his opponents.
7. Calgary Flames - I think the direction Kev needs to go, and probably will go, is with a franchise defenseman. And there could be one sitting right here for him. DAVID REINBACHER showed last season that he's ready to move onto the big club. He was Laval's top defender after joining the club and Montreal needs a top defender badly, rather than just a bunch of complementary guys.
8. New York Rangers - I feel as if PJ takes the already somewhat NHL-seasoned ZACH BENSON here. He's got the razzle-dazzle skill that PJ's franchise needs and would look amazing playing with Cale Makar for years to come.
9. Pittsburgh Penguins - I think at this spot, if DALIBOR DVORSKY is still around, Toby's decision is made easy. He was fun to watch last year in Sudbury and Toby had a front-row seat almost every game. He's a smart player with great hands and a solid two-way game. A little quiet in the playoffs, but then so were all the Wolves. A nice 1st season in North America.
10. Los Angeles Kings - Sticking with the theme of likely sim darlings, I have Kevin matching up with NATE DANIELSON here. Maybe the top 200 foot forward in the draft class, Danielson also happens to be a Stevie Y favourite, a coach's favourite, and in one of the best developmental systems in the league. A big body presense to boot.
