Best Contracts in the BRHL Currently

What are some of the best deals?

Hello Everyone!

I was wondering which contracts in the BRHL are looking really good right now and decided to highlight a few of those. I excluded players on their ELC's and players with 1 year remaining. I may have missed a few, so please don't hesitate to bring those to my attention.

Without further adu, here they are:

Colorado Avalanche (Pat Padula):

Roope Hintz - BRHL $3,118,500 2yrs / NHL $8,450,000

Stuart Skinner - BRHL $937,500 4yrs / NHL $2,600,000

Having an NHL starter at under a mil for the next 4 years is amazing value. Roope Hintz next deal might not look like a steal, but it is one of the better contracts in the league for this year and next.

Chicago Blackhawks (David Yee):

Darnell Nurse - BRHL $5,500,000 5yrs / NHL $9,250,000

Regardless how you feel about Nurse as a player, saving 4 million over 5 years is a hell of a savings.

Boston Bruins (Greg Almeida):

David Pastrnak - BRHL $7,800,000 4yrs / NHL $11,250,000

With his new NHL deal kicking in this year, his BRHL deal is looking like a hell of a steal.

Washington Capitals (Larry Linke):

Robert Thomas - BRHL $3,500,000 4yrs / NHL $8,125,000

Adrian Kempe - BRHL $1,980,000 2yrs / NHL $5,500,000

These guys are massively underpaid in the BRHL, the Thomas contract is looking very good right now and going forward for Larry's Caps. He also has Kempe on a sweatheart deal for this season and next.

Arizona Coyotes (Joel Mierau):

Philipp Kurashev - BRHL $750,000 3yrs / NHL $2,250,000

At first glance I assumed this was an ELC, but Joel signed him coming out of his ELC to a pretty sweet deal. If he can stay in Chicago's top 6 going forward his is going to look better and better as it ages.

Calgary Flames (Kevin Switzer):

Troy Terry - BRHL $1,550,000 3yrs / NHL $7,000,000

He's having a bit of a down season, projected to have his lowest point total in the last 3 years. But he is on a terrible Ducks team. Anyway you slice it, this is monster cap savings for Kevin.

Vegas Golden Knights (Joe Bast):

Jonas Siegenthaler - BRHL $880,000 2yrs / NHL $3,400,000

Another player having a bit of a down season, he was outstanding last season and a big reason for the Devils success. Having a top 4 Dman making less than a million is a hell of a contract and is the reason he's included here.

Carolina Hurricanes (Richard Cordell):

Mason Marchment - BRHL $1,100,000 4yrs / NHL $4,500,000

Mikhail Sergachev - BRHL $4,752,000 3yrs / NHL $8,500,000

Rich is having a down season but has some bright spots on his roster contract wise. The Marchment contract looks pretty great right now and the Sergachev contract looks even better. A legit top pairing Dman under 5 mil is a great contract.

Los Angeles Kings (Tyler Rumpel):

Teuvo Teravainen - BRHL $2,500,000 5yrs / NHL $5,400,000

Justin Schultz - BRHL $900,000 4yrs / NHL $3,000,000

TT had a down year last season, but has picked up the slack this year and is looking like a good contract moving forward. Schultz is a bit of a mid player...but again having a regular NHL Dman making under a mil is a good contract and makes this list.

Seattle Kraken (Rex Shuck):

Rasmus Dahlin - BRHL $6,750,000 5yrs / NHL $11,000,000

Dahlin's contract extension kicks in next season, and boy did he get paid. Rex was able to get him signed long term out of his 2nd contract. Great value!

Toronto Maple Leafs (Garrett Hansford):

Pierre-Luc Dubois - BRHL $4,950,000 4yrs / NHL $8,500,000

Ross Colton - BRHL $1,113,750 3yrs / NHL $4,000,000

Jonathan Huberdeau - BRHL $7,965,000 3yrs / NHL $10,500,000

Toronto is a team in transition, and having these good contracts will be big for Garrett's Leafs going forward. The PLD contract looks like the best of the bunch and regardless of your opinion on Huberdeau, that is pretty good savings for the next 3 years.

Edmonton Oilers (Leon Yu):

Auston Matthews - BRHL $5,761,924 3yrs / NHL $13,250,000

Andre Burakovsky - BRHL $3,250,000 5yrs / NHL $5,500,000

Jared Spurgeon - BRHL $3,500,000 5yrs / NHL $7,575,000

The Matthews contract extension in the NHL kicks in next season, but even using this years salary and his BRHL contract is still one of the best in the league. On top of that he's got Burakovsky & Spurgeon locked up for 5 years on great deals.

Detroit Red Wings (Dan Sanders):

Tage Thompson - BRHL $1,500,000 3yrs / NHL $7,142,857

Joel Eriksson Ek - BRHL $1,673,437 2 yrs / NHL $5,250,000

Elias Pettersson - BRHL $7,276,500 4yrs / NHL $TBD

MacKenzie Weegar - BRHL $2,887,500 4yrs / NHL $6,250,000

Alex Pietrangelo - BRHL $6,300,000 4yrs / NHL $8,800,000

Mr. Retention has a whole team of good contracts it seems, but these look like the best of the lot. I included EP on here even though he hasn't re-signed yet, but you know it's going to be a big one and he's signed 3 more seasons for Dan. The Thompson contract is also top notch. the guy is making less than JEE for heaven's sake.

Buffalo Sabres (Jared Mitchell):

Ivan Barbashev - BRHL $1,460,250 2yrs / NHL $5,000,000

Gabriel Vilardi - BRHL $948,750 4yrs / NHL $3,437,500

Drew Doughty - BRHL $3,900,000 3yrs / NHL $11,000,000

The Sabres were lucky to sign Vilardi out of his bridge deal with the Kings. If he can keep producing at the rate he is, this will be a steal going forward. The Doughty deal is also huge cap savings for this year and two more.

San Jose Sharks (Sumit Purba):

John Tavares - BRHL $7,500,000 2yrs / NHL $11,000,000

Nikita Kucherov - BRHL $6,460,000 4yrs / NHL $9,500,000

Two highly rated players making less in the BRHL. Perhaps not as extreme savings as other teams, but still top players at reasonable salaries. The Kucherov contract is the best on his team currently.

Dallas Stars (Junya Kato):

Jesper Bratt - BRHL $3,093,750 4yrs / NHL $7,875,000

Bratt signed his big deal this off-season in the NHL and now looks like a steal of a contract in the BRHL. Junya locking him in just over 3 mil is great value.

Minnesota Wild (Al Wehr):

Kevin Fiala - BRHL $3,450,000 2yrs / NHL $7,875,000

Savings for this year and next, then a UFA. Still one of the better contracts in BRHL.

So which is the best of the lot? For me I would say Matthews making less than 6mil for two more seasons is tops.

PAID 1.5m
Gotta take into consideration the retentions.....Matthews listed salary is misleading because the other half of it is being paid by another team through retentions
