32 Thots - #27 - Anahiem Ducks
The 27th installment includes Devon's Anaheim Ducks. I don’t even know the new GMs name nor has he made enough of an impact for me to even bother attempting find out his name. More importantly, this is forever a Cordell team and Devon will come back to take this team.
Forwards:
- Key Players: Leo Carlsson, Andrei Svechnikov, Ondrej Palat, Jesper Fast, Tomas Tatar
- Depth Players: Jakob Silfverberg, Corey Perry, Alexey Toropchenko, Jack Drury, Chris Wagner, Joseph Blandisi
- Scratched Players: Nathan Bastian, Ryan Reaves
Grade: C+
Your forward group is decent but lacks a true superstar. Leo Carlsson is your most promising piece—he has elite upside and can develop into a No. 1 center, but he’s still young. Andrei Svechnikov is your best established scorer, providing strong offensive production and physical play. Ondrej Palat and Jesper Fast add solid veteran leadership but aren’t elite offensive contributors.
Depth-wise, Silfverberg, Perry, and Toropchenko are all bottom-six players at this stage. There’s a noticeable lack of elite top-line wingers, which limits your scoring potential. Scratched players like Ryan Reaves and Nathan Bastian add grit but offer little offensively.
Defense:
- Key Players: Victor Hedman, Simon Nemec, Pavel Mintyukov
- Depth Players: Conor Timmins, Colin Miller, Nikita Okhotiuk
- Scratched Players: None
Grade: B-
Victor Hedman is your franchise defenseman, providing elite two-way play and leadership. He’s still one of the best defensemen in the league, which gives your blue line a strong foundation. Simon Nemec and Pavel Mintyukov are two excellent young defensemen with high offensive ceilings—Nemec could become a No. 1 defenseman in the near future.
The rest of the group is serviceable but lacks depth. Conor Timmins is injury-prone and inconsistent, while Colin Miller and Nikita Okhotiuk are more suited for bottom-pair roles.
Goaltending:
- Goalies: Jake Allen, Anson Thornton
- Scratched Goalies: Oscar Dansk
Grade: C-
Jake Allen is a decent veteran goalie, but he isn’t a true No. 1 and is best suited as a backup or tandem option. Anson Thornton is still unproven, and Oscar Dansk isn’t a reliable NHL option.
Prospect Pool:
- Top Prospects: Leo Carlsson, Rutger McGroarty, Jacob Fowler, Pavel Mintyukov, Simon Nemec
- Other Notable Prospects: David Goyette, Carson Rehkopf, Beau Akey, Shai Buium, Ty Nelson, Ryan Ufko, Hunter Haight, Vinzenz Rohrer
Grade: A-
Your prospect pool is a major strength, featuring high-end talent across all positions. Leo Carlsson is the future of your forward group, and Rutger McGroarty has the potential to be a top-six winger. Pavel Mintyukov and Simon Nemec provide elite future defensemen, ensuring that your blue line remains strong for years.
The only weakness is goaltending—Jacob Fowler is your only notable goalie prospect, and he’s still unproven.
You have one of the best prospect pools in the league, but you need to find a future No. 1 goalie to complete the rebuild.
Draft Capital & Future Outlook:
- Notable Picks:
- 2025 1st (ANA, EDM), 2026 1st (ANA, EDM), 2027 1st (ANA, SJS)
- Multiple later-round picks in 2025-2029
Grade: A
You have multiple first-round picks over the next few years, which is a massive advantage for either drafting elite prospects or trading for established talent. That SJ 1st in 2027 has the highest chance of being first overall.
Final Grade: C+
Your team is in a strong position for the future, but you’re not a top-tier contender yet. You have elite defensive prospects and a future star in Leo Carlsson, but your current goaltending is a major weakness. In all honesty, the new GM is a wildcard and unproven. His performance will be the true key in the success of this team. He may be the best GM since Kirk. Or the worst GM since Tyler R. Time will tell. I feel like he is just a place holder and Devon will take the team back soon.
How to Improve:
- Find a true No. 1 goalie—this is your biggest weakness.
- Consider trading a first-round pick for a young star forward to improve your top-six now.
- Develop your defensive prospects—Nemec and Mintyukov will be key to long-term success.
Give your team back to Devon.
