32 Thots - #10 - Tampa Bay Lightning
Here we are folks; the final ten of the epic 32 thots program – which has seen the teams of the infamous BRHL be ranked from worst to best.
Beginning at 10th is The Eric and his Tampa Bay Lightning.
The Tampa Bay Lightning managed by Eric Ferraro has had a dominant season.
- Record: 52-19-3 (1st in Atlantic Division)
- Powerplay (PP): 24.45% (4th) – An elite man-advantage unit.
- Penalty Kill (PK): 84.9% (5th) – Very strong and reliable.
- Goals For (GF): 3.43 (8th) – Consistent offensive production.
- Goals Against (GA): 2.34 (1st) – Best defensive record in the entire league.
Forwards: B+
This is a strong veteran group mixed with solid younger players.
- Top End: Brayden Point, Mathew Barzal, Nikolaj Ehlers, Alexis Lafreniere — that's elite production, versatility, and star power.
- Depth: Brock Nelson, Jamie Benn, Dylan Strome, Charlie Coyle provide real veteran depth, but many are past their primes or declining (especially Benn and Coyle).
- Weakness: You're thin beyond your top 9. Nick Bjugstad, Lars Eller, Yakov Trenin are fine but offer little upside.
Overall: Your scoring is strong today but aging fast, and beyond your big names, there’s a clear drop-off.
Defense: A
Your D-core is outstanding for fantasy based on past NHL stats.
- Elite pieces: Joshua Morrissey is a top fantasy defenseman, Brock Faber looks like a stud already, Owen Power and Jake Sanderson are future stars (and already very good).
- Depth: Marcus Pettersson, Josh Manson, Andrew Peeke are nice depth guys to round out the unit, especially in a league like BRHL.
Overall: Very well set for both now and the future. This is your team’s biggest strength.
Goalies: B
- Charlie Lindgren and Kevin Lankinen are decent but neither is a clear long-term starter. Lindgren was strong this year but he’s not a high-end #1 goalie.
- Devon Levi (on the farm) is your future — he's a top goalie prospect but needs time to fully break through.
Overall: Solid for now, but you’ll need Levi to step up long-term or find a true starter.
Future Outlook: B+
You have a strong prospect pool.
- Top Prospects: Scott Morrow, Michael Hrabal, Ayrton Martino, and Matyas Sapovaliv stand out the most. Morrow especially is a highly regarded D prospect.
- Depth: Names like Bogdan Konyushkov, Patrik Puistola, and Luca Cagnoni are all solid longer-term bets.
- Weakness: There isn’t a lot of future elite offense besides Morrow and Sapovaliv — you’ll need more forwards eventually.
Overall: Your future defense is in great shape, but adding higher-upside forwards would be wise.
Draft Capital:
- You hold multiple 1sts in 2025 (PHI 1, PHI 3, and more), so you have plenty of ammunition to either pick elite players or trade for immediate help.
- Plus, you have most of your own 2026 picks — very healthy draft situation.
Final Verdict:
- Contender Today.
- Slight Risk in 2–3 Years if you don't replace your aging forwards.
- Defense is elite, future-proofed.
- Goaltending needs one guy to step up.
Grade: A-
THOT SUGGESTIONS:
1. Add a young, top-6 winger or center.
- Your forward core is still very good but aging fast (Benn, Nelson, Coyle, Eller, etc.).
- You need a player under 25 who can step into a top-6 role within 1-2 seasons.
- How? You have multiple 2025 1sts (PHI 1, PHI 3, etc.) — use one to either draft a top forward or trade for a young NHL player already producing.
- Examples: Target players like Matty Beniers, Lucas Raymond, Cole Perfetti, or similar types.
2. Lock in another true starting goalie.
- Charlie Lindgren had a strong year but he’s risky long-term.
- Devon Levi is a top prospect, but goalies take longer to develop and are unpredictable.
- How? Use picks or depth players to trade for a young or mid-prime goalie (e.g., Filip Gustavsson, Jake Oettinger if available, or even a mid-tier guy like Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen).
- Goal: Avoid having goalie issues sink an otherwise championship-level roster.
3. Sell one older forward at peak value.
- Guys like Brock Nelson or Jamie Benn still have good name value but will only regress.
- How? Trade them for prospects or picks before their value tanks.
- Who to Keep: Keep Brayden Point, Mathew Barzal, Lafreniere, and Ehlers.
Who to Consider Selling: Benn, Coyle, Eller, or even Brock Nelson if you get a good offer.
Eric has done a great job at being the better Eric. Eric saved the league last year as both of its creators disappeared to Disney Land. Eric and Sheds became the new Bryce and Eric F for a season. Now Eric is being rewarded with a successful regular season and likely championship run. Eric has done a good job building this team like a subway sandwich. Good base with the bread, good meat and potatoes and a solid choice of dressing. This is all in to say that Eric has the perfect compliment of sim forwards, defense and goalies to win the cup.
