32 Thots - The Fantasic Four - #3 - Winnipeg Jets

Welcoming a top 3 thot entry is our favorite GM, WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO SAM MONTEMBEAULTT WOOOOOOOOOOOO, Jordan Hansford aka “Doc”

Record: 26-50-5 (8th in Central)
PP: 11.34% (31st) | PK: 77.78% (27th)
GF: 2.4 (28th) | GA: 3.67 (30th)

Summary:
The Winnipeg Jets had a brutal campaign across the board, finishing near the bottom in nearly every major statistical category. The powerplay was historically bad at 11.34%, only narrowly avoiding dead last, and the penalty kill wasn’t far behind at 77.78% (27th). Offensively, the team couldn’t generate enough consistent pressure, averaging just 2.4 goals per game (28th), while defensively they were a sieve, giving up 3.67 goals against per game, third-worst in the league.

Despite the poor results, this might be one of the most entertaining rosters in the league for pure chaos value. Jordan Hansford may not be gunning for the playoffs, but he’s making a legitimate run at the BRHL Hall of Infamy with this masterpiece of suffering. A truly elite tank job that could easily go down as one of the top 3 "thots" entries of all-time.

Whether by design or disaster, this Jets team is committed to its identity. And that identity is pain.

But with the pain, comes the light, and that is where this team is headed as the stockpile of picks and prospects, along with the surprise addition of a Kent Johnson, this team is headed for a reign of excellence.

FORWARDS: C+
There’s talent — but it’s raw, uneven, and underperforming.

  • Jack Eichel and Kent Johnson headline the offense, with Logan Cooley looking like a future star.
  • Depth names like Sam Lafferty, John Beecher, and Evgenii Dadonov aren’t moving the needle.
  • Veterans Tom Wilson, Jaden Schwartz, and Jonathan Drouin bring experience but lack consistency. That said, Wilson is having a monster year.

There’s just too much middle-six clutter and not enough scoring punch — reflected in the 28th-ranked goals-for total.

DEFENSE: C-
This blue line is physical, but it’s thin on elite talent.

  • Matt Dumba, Arber Xhekaj, and Thomas Harley add grit and upside.
  • Philip Broberg, Jake Bean, and Kaedan Korczak are still trying to prove themselves.

With no top-pair cornerstone and lacking puck movement, this group is part of why Winnipeg ranks 30th in goals against.

GOALTENDING: B-
This could quietly become a strength — in time.

  • Joseph Woll and Spencer Knight offer strong long-term upside but aren’t quite ready to carry a full load.
  • Samuel Montembeault is a competent third option.

Development will be key. The upside is real, but the consistency isn’t there yet.

PROSPECT POOL: A-
The real prize of this franchise.

  • Headlined by Will Smith, Jimmy Snuggerud, Lukas Dragicevic, Sam Rinzel, Ryan O’Rourke, and Joshua Roy.
  • Forward depth is elite, with names like Lucius, Raty, L’Heureux, Tverberg, Heineman, and Belluz.
  • Defensively, Lian Bichsel, Tyson Barrie, Ville Ottavainen, and Caden Price offer a solid mix of upside and floor.
  • Goalies like Artur Akhtyamov, Vyacheslav Peksa, and Samuel Hlavaj round out a very complete pipeline.

This is a top-3 farm system in the BRHL.

DRAFT CAPITAL: A+
This is where things get silly.

  • Four 1st-rounders in 2025 and a ridiculous 19 picks in the first 5 rounds.
  • 2026 is also loaded with picks in every round.

You’ve got elite rebuilding power — whether to draft, trade up, or acquire young NHL talent.

OVERALL GRADE: A
Yes, the team on the ice is a tire fire right now. But the foundation beneath it? Arguably one of the strongest in the league.

  • The forward group lacks high-end production.
  • The defense needs a #1.
  • The goaltending is bubbling with potential.
  • And the future pipeline is stacked.

This is how you tank properly — with vision and structure. A few years of patience, and the Jets could go from basement dweller to perennial contender.

Here are five strategic offseason moves the Winnipeg Jets should strongly consider to accelerate their rebuild and maximize their treasure chest:

1. Consolidate Draft Picks into Blue-Chip Talent

You have an absurd amount of draft capital — use it.

  • Trade up in the 2025 draft to grab multiple picks in the top 10.
  • Target a true franchise cornerstone (e.g., elite forward or #1D prospect).
  • Alternative: Package mid-round picks to acquire 22–25-year-old NHLers who are trending up but underutilized elsewhere.

Don’t hoard picks like NFTs — use them to build something real.

2. Clear Out Middle-Six Clutter

Your current roster is bloated with:

  • Mid-tier veterans (Drouin, Dadonov, Schwartz)
  • Fourth-line tweeners (Lafferty, Leason, Grundstrom)

Use the offseason to free roster space and move these players for picks, depth D, or just cap flexibility. Even 6th/7th rounders have value to you with how many you hold.

3. Add a Top-Pairing Defenseman

You're bottom-3 in GA, and your defense lacks a true anchor.

  • Target young, proven D on teams in cap crunch (e.g., Noah Dobson, Jakob Chychrun, K’Andre Miller-types).
  • Use your prospect surplus or one of your 2025 1st-rounders.

Pairing a top D with Harley or Broberg would stabilize the blue line and mentor your kids.

4. Upgrade Your Goaltending Tandem

Woll and Knight are promising, but injury-prone and unproven.

  • Bring in a cheap, reliable veteran (UFA or trade) to create a 3-headed monster. Think James Reimer, Laurent Brossoit, Kaapo Kähkönen.
  • You can’t waste the development years of your young team on goaltending volatility.

5. Flip Prospects Before They Stale

Your farm is DEEP. Some names are going to stall or plateau.

  • Sell overhyped or soon-to-age-out prospects (e.g., players already 22+ with limited NHL exposure).
  • Use them to upgrade at key positions (e.g., defense or a goalie prospect you actually need like Dustin Wolf or Yaroslav Askarov).

Don’t be afraid to sell from strength. Not everyone makes it.

Offseason Motto:
Turn quantity into quality. You’ve built the bones — now sharpen the blade.

Also, please look at whoever Rex places on waivers this year. If you’re lucky, he might actually put his Hudderite buddy Joel Hofer on waivers.
