2017-2018 Real Awards (Part 4/4)

Just got it done on time.

And now for the final installment...

Joseph Bubanj – Best Joe B

Sorry Joe Bast, I just couldn’t think of anything else for Bubanj. I guess it could have been best encore, as Bubanj is on his second tour of duty in the BRHL2 (I think). He also gets runner-up for best last name, as Bubanj is a good one. I’ve never chatted much with Bubanj, except a few minor trade discussions I think in his first tour of duty, and If I recall correctly, they didn’t go anywhere. Bubanj seems to take a similar approach to the cat-man, and make very few moves. Honestly, I just like typing Bubanj.. Bubanj Bubanj Bubanj

Richard Cordell – Best sucker for Trolling

Rich and Kato are something special. If Rich didn’t get so riled up by Kato, I’m pretty sure Junya would quit the trolling altogether, as no one else seems to bite quite as much as Rich. I do appreciate that Rich has started calling Kato out and throwing down the bet offers that Kato always has to find a way to backpedal out of – I do enjoy watching Kato run away with his tail between his legs when that happens. I could also give Rich the award for best retooler, but I have a feeling that the days of moving picks for players and managing to keep competing are behind the Hurricanes. I forsee a deep dive into the basement in the next year or two, and with cupboards that are bare, bare, bare… it isn’t going to be pretty

Jesse Vansickle – Best Rumpy Impresion

It seems lately that Rumpy spends more time being sobre than Jesse does. I think Vansickle is trying to give Rumpy a run for his money here, though I don’t think Jesse is quite the consumer of illicits that Rumpy is. The other thing that Jesse and Rumpy have in common is that both seem to have amassed an incredible amount of scoring talent. Looking at Jesse’s roster, it may actually be better offensively than Rumpy’s, which is scary. Also like Rumpy, he could use some DF forwards who could skate a regular shift.

Ryan Hicks – Best Transition into the BRHL2

The best new GM award is already given out, so I guess I’ll give this one a slightly different name. Ryan has done a nice job sliding into his role here. He’s managed to fend of the vultures and not get “Kirked”. I know some complained about him being slow to respond early on, but I had no issues with him at all. His roster is nicely set up for this year and beyond, and he should have a team that can compete for a while. Nice work Ryan.

Tim Scholl – Best Overachievement

I had zero expectation that his team could win the cup, and yet they did. Somehow he got Mike Fisher to be one of the top offensive players in the league, and had some fantastic play from an overall mediocre roster. Nice job Tim. I really didn’t think this team could win it until they got to the finals against the shitty West. He managed to get through some good teams in the East, and then made quick work of the Flamers in the finals.

Anthony Cepparulo – Best Beer-maker

Please send me some once you figure out how to send to Canada. Seriously though, I need to be nice to Anthony, as with a name like that – and owning a brewery, I wonder if he just might be connected to the mob. The best thing about Anthony is that he no longer has a shitty goalie he is trying to trade. I don’t miss Kinkaid or Lehner one bit. Although, now he’s trying to turn a 7th rounder into a 2nd rounder via Joe Thornton – very mafia of him.

Billy Kennedy – Best at Failing

Poor Billy. If it’s not one thing it’s another. What an epic disaster of a year… again. Give the man credit for going all-in, but shit it has to hurt when he does that and then misses the playoffs… ouch. He does still have a decent roster, but he’s verging on Rich territory here moving all his futures for the now – at some point it’s all going to come crashing down. Let’s see if he can have one last good kick at the can this season.

Larry Linke – Best Expansion GM

Although I think Rex may have slightly edged Larry in the expansion draft (aside from rex’s taking UFA guys for loyalty, which is stupid), I do think that Larry still gets best Expansion GM based on his performance leading up to the expansion draft. He did a great job working the angles trying to maximize his opportunities, but unfortunately was derailed by Rex’s stupid decision to not negotiate before the trade deadline. Either way, I do think Larry made a few decent moves, and overall has set himself up more for the long-game, as he’s clearly working on a multi-year plan, which is the right thing to do. I like it Larry – please don’t shoot me with your Glock.
