Could the rumors be true?  Could Drew Doughty actually be traded before the start of the season. It is believed the Maple Leafs were presented with an offer that included several high end assets that has given Toronto management pause for thought.  It is believed to have included a top young player, prospects and picks. 

"We don't discuss rumors at all," said GM Garrett Hansford.  "I will say that Drew is the best defenceman in the league in my opinion, and teams are always chasing the best players in the game."

Doughty recently signed a long term extension with the Maple Leafs averaging more than $9 million per season.   

"Drew is paid what one of the best hockey players in the world should be paid," said Hansford. 

Toronto has clearly been focused on a youth movement, adding top prospects Pierre-Luc Dubois and Samuel Girard this season and is expected to have an average player age under 25.
