Daily Recap
Habs 5
Isles 4
Tonights highest scoring game came from an unlikely source as 2 of the leagues best tenders squared off in this one. Both squads appeared to have the same approach of "shoot from anywhere" as both teams had over 35+ shots on goal and despite both goalies stopping 30+ shots it would have to be considered an "off day at the office" for both. The Habs jumped out to a 3-1 first period lead and every time the Isles closed the gap the Habs answered back with 1 of their own. Of concern to the Isles is the fact that Montreals second line accounted for 4 even strength goals in this one so shutting them down or at least containing them will be imperative if the Isles hope to move forward from this round. Series heading to Montreal tied at 1
Jackets 3
Pens 4 OT
In the "wouldn't crack an egg" game both teams played shinny for 69 minutes before Josh Gorges potted a overtime winner.....yes I said Josh Gorges! With only 2 penalties called and 74 combined shots this game could hardly be compared to a typical playoff tilt but with the overtime winner the Pens find themselves up 2-0 in the series heading back to Columbus. Columbus trailed at the end of the first, second, and most of the third before finally netting the equalizer after a 16 shot peppering of Crawford and maybe Columbus had nothing left in the tank for overtime as they were on the wrong end of a 10-2 barrage of their own. Series shifts back to Columbus where they hope to turn the tables down 2-0
Wings 3
Bruins 5
The Bruins put together another strong effort in this one and once again skated away with the "W". With yet another high shot game on this evening both teams traded chances but it was the Bruin tender that stood tallest for the second straight game. What has to be concerning for the Wings is that they are getting their scoring from the bottom 6 while the Bruins top 2 lines are putting up the numbers on the other side. Detroit has to hope for a bit better puck luck and to find an answer to Bostons top lines heading home if they want to continue in this series down 2-0.
Lightning 2
Sens 4
With a combined 80 shots in this game it would have been the "shinny" game of the night if not for the fact that there was at least enough sand paper to generate 5 penalties. The Lightning came out flying pumping 30 shots on goal in the first 2 periods and could only manage a 2-2 tie to that point. What the hell can Tampa do to offset this eastern powerhouse after playing so well for 2 periods and not be able to gain a lead? This is simple, when Dumba and Seabrook are your goal scorers you simply need your snipers to contribute and if you don't get that contribution you go golfing.....Tampa heads home hoping to find some bullets for the guns down 2-0
