Daily Recap
Second team in east moves on
Habs 3
Isles 5
On Long Island the hometown New Yorkers once again got a solid night of goaltending and essentially stole the game early. The raucus crowd had the Isles flying early as they outshot and outplayed the Habs in the first to the tune of a 19-11 shot advantage but more importantly a 3-1 lead. The rest of the game was a completely opposite story however as the visitors pounded Vasi with a barrage of shots over the next 2 totalling 32-17. It was not goalie Bobs night on this night as despite the Habs dominating he couldn't make the big save when they needed it and that early 2 goal lead was maintained at the final buzzer. What could now be the deciding factor in this series ironically is who has the better back-up as both Bobrovsky and Vasilevskiy will not be close to 100% next game with both suffering from fatigue after facing so many shots over the earlier games. Look for both back-ups to get the nod in game 6 back in Montreal with the Habs hoping to stay alive! Isles up 3-2
Jackets 3
Pens 4
McDavid, Tarasenko, Benn who? GM Jesse got the message across loud and clear following last games effort making certain the BIG 3 from the Pens wouldn't beat them but somehow the collection of "also rans" managed to put 4 goals past a less than spectacular Ben Bishop. Columbus came out and did everything a team facing elimination should (unlike some others), outshooting and outplaying their competition throughout but as has been the case since forever, goaltending wins championships and not having it leads to an early summer! Columbus didn't get goaltending and it looks like with a strong core this team will have some additional time this summer to make some adjustments. Pens move on taking series 4-1
Tampa 2 OT
Sens 1
Hey Steph....Tampa Tampa Tampa!! In what would be an even bigger shocker in these playoffs then the Bruins broom job of the Wings, Tampa now has a 3-2 series lead heading home with a chance to close out the heavily favored Sens. Does the sim not like "GIF's" or "memes"??? Something is clearly amiss as the Sens once again controlled the game throughout outshooting the visitors 36-17 in regulation yet being forced to overtime. Overtime was clearly a different game however as the Bolts came out with renewed vigor, perhaps being bouyed by the fact they should have already lost, and were throwing shots from everywhere totally 10 before Brent Burns netted his first of the playoffs at just the 4:10 mark of overtime! Of note in this one however is despite the heroics of netminder J.Quick stealing this game he will be unavailable to start the next game and is listed as day to day. Quick should be able to retake the net if the series goes to game 7 despite likely not being 100% !
