Daily Recap

Vegas and Hawks moving on

Flames  1

Preds    2

Preds win to force game 7 in the snorefest game of the evening! Both the Flames and Preds took game 6 very seriously, maybe too seriously as neither team appeared willing to open up the offense. Both teams played like they were afraid to lose rather than trying to win which suited the hometown Preds just fine. After a very dull couple of periods of action Nashville realized they were 1 shot away from taking the summer off and started to generate a bit of offense leading to Calgarys Andrew Ladd taking a penalty. That was the opening Nashville was looking for and Derek Stepan netted his 1st of the playoffs to take the lead....one they wouldn't give up the rest of the way. Of note is the fact neither goalie was worked too hard in this one and both starters look to be good to go for the final game. Series back to Calgary tied at 3

Vegas   4

Kings   3

After losing the first 2 games on home ice, Vegas charges back with 4 straight wins to steal this series back in 6 games. This game started out in a frenzy as both teams shot the lights out in the first and it looked like this was going to be a case of "last shot wins" but after all 7 goals were scored in the first both starters settled in and didn't allow another goal the rest of the way. The problem for the hometown Kings was they didn't shoot last in the first and the penalties taken at the end of the period proved to be their undoing giving up back to back tallies to end the frame. Although this was a series that was expected to go 6 or 7 games it has to be a disappointing finish to the season for "The Dynasty" Vegas wins 4-2

Stars   1

Jets    3

In the "huh??" series, the Jets hold serve on home ice to force game 7 in Dallas! Are the Jets this good? Are the Stars that bad? Is this just a mathmatical formula Junya came up with while mastering the sim to maximize profits? Who the fck knows but it is crunch time now with a "loser leave town" game on the horizon. Of note for game 7 it is clear that Jets starter J.Howard will not be fully recovered and will start at less then 100% while Dallas will counter with the fully healthy MAF. Dallas pisses away 2 shots to end this and heads home for game 7 tied at 3.

Aves     3

Hawks  4

In the "must see t.v." series the Blackhawks from Chicago did exactly what they needed to do and close this series out on home ice tonight. After battling back and forth the previous 5 games Chicago emerged with a 3-2 series lead heading home. More importantly however was the fact that Colorado starter P.Rinne was unable to go in net and this was not an opportunity Chicago could afford to waste having their starter at 100%. P. Grubauer got the nod in goal for his first playoff action and it was ugly for him early and often with the Hawks peppering him and netting 4 pucks behind him before the second period had ended. As has been the case all series you can expect the unexpected and when Colorado scored twice in the last 2 minutes of the second somehow this blowout became a game again. Sebastian Aho got Colorado to within 1 of the Hawks at the midway point of the third and it was white knuckle time in Chicago. With the Colorado net empty with under 10 seconds to go  MacKinnon and Backlund squared off in the most important face-off of the play-offs but it was rather anti-climatic as Backlund won the draw to kill the clock. The worst part of this series is that it had to end. Hawks move on winning 4-2
