Sabres Off-Season Begins

Trade rumours / Roster outlook

The first year of the rebuild is now completed. The team wasn't quite as bad as critics expected, Matt Duchene & Michal Neuvirth both played well in their first years with the Sabres. The team now is eyeing the draft in the off-season where GM Mitchell holds the 12th overall pick, and has also opened the phone lines to trade talks. We should expect this team to continue to tear it down and stay the course of the rebuild.

So who's available and what is the team looking for in return for these players? We can expect the team to continue to add draft picks and prospects as the most desirable assets in trades. Below is a list of names that have hit the rumour mill over the last week:

Petr Mrazek

Alex Chiasson

Nikita Zadorov

Nick Bjugstad

Rumours have also been swirling that Matt Duchene could be available as well, but league interest will dictate if he's moved or not.

Why should Buffalo fans be excited for next season? Well, for starters the team has 9 draft picks all within the first 3 rounds. The Sabres will also see an injection of youth coming onto the pro & farm teams. Thomas Chabot will get his shot at a full-time spot, also Dennis Cholowski is another highly touted youngster on the back end who looks primed to take a spot on the pro team. Up front the team's rookies are less likely to make the pro team, but with the rebuild ongoing some spots might open up for the likes of Michael McLeod, Jonathan Dahlen & Sheldon Rempal.
