Daily Recap

Pens    3

Isles   6

Toby got spanked....period! This was exactly the result you would expect from the way this game was played and if nothing else the sim showed that it can be somewhat predictable from time to time. The hometown Isles came out flying in the first and never let up throughout the game as despite allowing the Pens to remain close through 2 periods (3-2) they were comfortable with the effort having outshot and outplayed the visitors all 3 periods. C. Crawford did his part keeping his team in it for 2 periods but he faultered in the third allowing the game to get away. The only thing to go wrong for the Isles was a head injury to defenseman M. Matheson that will keep him out for the next few games but if this series goes deep or the Isles move forward he is expected to make a full recovery and return to the line-up these play-offs. Isles get a leg up 1-0

Lightning   1

Bruins      2

In the "David vs. Goliath" match-up, Goliath may have already crushed David! Although it is only game 1 Tampa finds themselves trailing the heavily favored Bruins and have lost star winger Anders Lee for 3 weeks. Tampa played a flawless couple of periods containing the Bruins and holding them to only 15 shots and 1 goal against. The problem was Tampa could only muster 1 goal of their own and when the Bruins came with a big third period push (19 shots on goal) there simply was no answer from the deflated Bolts. One hopes that Tampa finds some of the early energy they had for this one, engaging in an early first period line brawl, now that their best offensive player has hit the trainers table. They had better or it will be a cake walk to the conference finals for GM Greg and his loaded Bruins! Boston up 1-0
