Overtimes wild
Preds 2 OT2
Vegas 1
Vegas came out of the chute fast and took a 1-0 lead to the locker room in a fairly even opening frame but then things went a little strange. In the second period Nashville was completely dominated being outshot 15-4 yet managed to survive without any further damage and when Alex DeBrincat scored in the third on the PP to knot things up the unlikely became possible. Nashville was outshot by a combined 53-32 for the game including 9-3 in double OT but Derek Stepan scored to steal the win and home ice for Nashville. With both teams having capable goalies these could all be tight games but one would have to think that if these games continue to be one-sided that the puck will start going into the net with a bit more regularity! Series tied at 1 heading to Nashville
Hawks 2
Stars 3 OT
In the second game of the night to require extra time it was once again the team that started best that finished worst. The Blackhawks played a great road game and aside from 2 minutes in the third period did everything right on this night. Chicago took a 2-0 lead into the third period and were looking pretty good to get the split until Ryan O'Reilly netted his 4th of the playoffs just 1:17 in. Before the home crowd had finished cheering for that goals announcement Kevin Hayes potted his 4th as well at the 2:49 mark. Chicago managed to right the ship and settle back down after that stalling the Star surge and actually outshot the Stars in the period. With both teams trading opportunities it was beginning to look like nobody would score and another overtime may be required until Kevin Hayes netted his second of the game and steal this victory away. Stars up 2-0
