BRHL Mock Draft 2020

First of many to come

EDIT: I did miss Cozens, and he surely will go top 15 in BRHL draft.

1. Detroit Red Wings – Jack Hughes – Hughes hasn’t looked like a #1 overall pick, but neither has anyone else. The consensus #1 pick stays at #1.

2. Washington Capitals – Kappo Kakko – A dream situation for Larry. The consensus # 2 is a certainty to go here.

3. Seattle Stoners – Kirby Dach – Rex sticks to one of his impressive WHL boys who has surprised many and played well so far with Chicago this year.

4. Vancouver Canucks – Vasili Podkolzin – Rob hasn’t had much (or any) luck getting any of his young Canucks in recent years. This is his chance to get one – and he takes it.

5. Philadelphia Flyers – Alex Turcotte – Anthony takes the highly touted American at # 5.

6. Toronto Maple Leafs – Bowen Byram – There isn’t really a reason for Byram to slip, so Garrett happily grabs him at 6. Stars slipping in the draft have made up the core of the Maple Leafs rebuild, and the trend continues here.

7. Buffalo Sabres – Trevor Zegras – An impressive WJC leads to Zegras jumping slightly in the BRHL Draft and Jared scoops him up at 7.

8. San Jose Sharks – Moritz Seider – Seider falls a bit, but not too far. Mika takes the Euro here.

9. Florida Panthers – Philip Broberg – Tynz goes with Broberg here. A very promising defenseman who is NHL Oilers property. Great trade bait if nothing else.

10. Los Angeles Kings (via New Jersey) – Victor Soderstrom – Rumpy goes with the smooth Swede defenseman here and sends Tim a thank you note for the pick.

11. Calgary Flames – Spencer Knight – Goalies are valuable and tough to acquire. Kevin replaces Samsonov with this pick.

12. St. Louis Blues – Cole Caufield – Eric takes the small American goal scorer to add to his improving prospect pool.

13. Calgary Flames (via Anaheim) – Jakob Pelletier – With the pick acquired in exchange for Adam Fox, Kevin grabs a Flame in Jakob Pelletier here.

14. Arizona Coyotes – Peyton Krebs – Joel goes with the solid Canadian forward here.

15. Anaheim Ducks (via Los Angeles) – Nolan Foote – Ducks add a power forward with a great shot to their core of the future.

16. Chicago Blackhawks (via Minnesota) – Matthew Boldy – The NHL Wild prospect slips to Al’s pick in the draft, but it belongs to Dave and the Hawks, who scoop up the forward here.

17. Philadelphia Flyers (via Nashville) – Cam York – The Flyer 1st rounder falls to Anthony, who gladly scoops up the talented D-man.

18. Los Angeles Kings (via Pittsburgh) – Alex Newhook – Rumpy happily grabs Newhook here. A year or two away from joining a dynamic Avs team, the talented centre could be a steal here.

19. Tampa Bay Lightning – Connor McMichael – Eric F happily grabs the WJC standout here. A very good forward added to a very good organization in Tampa.

20. Detroit Red Wings (via Dallas) – Ville Heinola – Dan grabs the talented Winnipeg D-man with his 2nd pick of the 1st round.

21. New Jersey Devils (via New York Rangers) – Samuel Poulin – Tim finally gets on the draft board and picks up the NHL Penguins 1st rounder here.

22. Chicago Blackhawks – Tobias Bjornfot – Dave grabs Bjornfot here, who surprised many making the LA Kings to start the year. Surely a good sign of things to come.

23. New Jersey Devils (via Boston) – Simon Holmstrom – Tim grabs another winger with his second pick of this round.

24. Chicago Blackhawks (via Carolina) – Philip Tomasino – Dave owns the back half of the 1st round. He adds another highly skilled forward to the system.

25. Buffalo Sabres (via Ottawa) – Thomas Harley – Jared grabs a big, smooth skating, goal scoring D-man with his second pick of this round.

26. Buffalo Sabres (via Winnipeg) – Arthus Kaliyev – Jared stays on the podium, this time selecting another highly skilled forward in Kaliyev.

27. Colorado Avalanche – Nils Hoglander – Almost certain to be a riser, Bryce scoops up the talented Swede here, despite his size.

28. Detroit Red Wings (via Edmonton) – Mads Sogaard – With his third pick of this round, Dan grabs one of the better goalies available in Sogaard. He’ll certainly hold him over Steph’s head when the BRHL Sens rebuild begins.

29. Calgary Flames (via Columbus) – Lassi Thomson – Kevin Grabs the slipping Fin with yet another first rounder (surprise). No real reason for Thomson to slide, but Flames are glad he did.

30. Calgary Flames (via Montreal) – Brayden Tracey – Amazingly, three teams own around 30% of the first round. Kevin stays on the podium, this time selecting a WHL boy in Tracey to add to his forward group.

31. New York Islanders – John Beecher – Blue balls goes with an American in Beecher with his 1st rounder, which he somehow still owns while maintaining a team that dominant. (Thanks Dan)

32. Edmonton Oilers (via Vegas) – Ryan Suzuki – The Asian takes the skilled Asian to wrap up the 1st round.
