Playoff Daily Recap

And the goals keep coming!

Bruins  2

Isles    7

For those that were unaware, Louis Domingue is NOT an elite goaltender!!! In what is presumably the consensus round 1 gimme GM Blueballs didn't disappoint with a 42 shot barrage of the retooling Bruins and expecting a goalie game steal isn't likely to come to fruition for the visitors. Domingue played admirably and kept his team alive for 2 periods only trailing 3-1 but the offensive firepower of the Isles was just too much to stand up to with another 4 goals being tossed in to completely blow Boston away. Kyle Conner was the brightest star on this evening doing "the trick" but there were plenty of stars on the Isles side this night. Not really sure what GM Greg has in store for the next game but surrendering 42 shots against this line-up won't bode well for anyone let alone a retooling team with a fringe starter. NYI lead 1-0

Pens    3

CBJ     4 (OT)

This was the premiere game of the evening with the game going back and forth all night featuring 4 lead changes....unfortunately for GM Toby the last change was for CBJ! Both teams displayed plenty of offense combining for 93 shots on goal but it was clearly a game that was decided in goal as Jakob Markstrom made 48 saves in the overtime win. The Pens took a 1 goal lead to the third and despite pumping the Columbus goal with 19 third period shots they surrendered the lead when K. Letang potted the equalizer on the PP. This is expected to be a close series and if game 1 is an indicater we will be looking at a long series. CBJ up 1-0

Car     1

MTL    3

Fck you Steve!!! So once again Carolina matches up with the Habs in round 1 and once again they fall to an early deficit dropping game 1. This was a close game from the outset and continued all game long trading chances and shots but it was the Habs shooters that made them count. Montreal jumped out to a 1-0 lead a little over a minute into the game and 2-0 before the period ended but it was J. Binnington that stole the show stopping all 15 shots he faced. Binnington kept Carolina at bay all game and kept his shutout going until Carolina finally potted 1 halfway through the third on the PP. Carolina will need to find some offense to prolong this series. Habs up 1-0

Bolts    0

Sens    4

Not exactly a huge stretch to see Steph and his Sens win a home game, or any game for that matter with that roster, but wth was that? Tampa comes out of the dressing room and outplays and outshoots the homeside 11-5 in the first....result? Sens up 2-0.....wtf??? Next period the Sens show some life and pump 18 shots onto the Tampa goal....result is Sens score once? The third period comes and goes with the Sens back in a coma peppering the Tampa net with a grand total of 4 shots ....result? Sens add another goal for the shutout....Of note in this one is D. Kuemper with a 30 save shutout. In just a bizarre game GM Eric can at least take something from competing and outshooting the homeside. In another series expecting to go deep we will look for Tampa to have some type of answer to this. Sens up 1-0
