Playoff Daily Recap

Kings first to fall

Vegas    5 (OT)

Hawks   4

As we have seen a few times already in this short playoff run there are some really close games that aren't really close at all. As Chicago was playing their second home game trailing in the series this was looked upon as a game they had to have but they were put into a tough spot having to rely on their back-up tender to do it. With Vegas having already rested their starter earlier in the series this was going to be a tough task and ultimately it was just too tough despite the heroics of M. Koskinen. Koskinen was under siege from the puck drop facing 36 shots in the first 2 periods alone while Chicago only managed 16 of their own over that same period yet it was just a 1 goal game heading to the third. J. Eberle notched is 1st of the playoffs in the third for Chicago and suddenly a team that simply didn't belong on the ice this night was in position to steal this one away. The Golden Knights were clearly not going to be denied this night however as Chicago took a late 3rd period penalty and when the 5th shot of the PP hit it also found the back of the net to end the improbable dreams of Chicago fans. Series headed back to Vegas up 3-1

Oilers   3 (2OT)

Kings   2

The LA Kings are the first casualty of these playoffs losing this night and getting broomed in the process. If only LA played like this every night they would likely still be alive to fight on some more! LA was put into a do or die game having to use their backup goalie and they played like it forcing Edmonton on the defensive from the opening faceoff. LA played a picture perfect protecting their goalie to the tune of 0 shots against in the first....yes I said zero! This clearly took a mental toll on LA however as the best they could do after 1 period was leave it tied 0-0 despite putting 16 shots on goal of their own. LA did finally pot a goal in the second however to take a 1-0 lead thru 2 but that lead was tenuous at best as Edmonton had started to find their legs. The third period looked alot like the rest of the series with Edmonton in control of the play and with them outscoring LA 2-1 in the frame to force overtime. The first overtime was......well.....errrmmm....boring as fck as neither team wanted to make the mistake to cost their team the game but Edmonton decided it was just better to finish this off in the second OT with Mikael Backlund scoring his 3rd of the playoffs. GM Rumpy will have to wait another year for the dynasty to start....Oil win 4-0

Jets   3

Wild  2

What to say about this game??? Well, it looks alot like their other games....these 2 teams are very similar with not much to choose between them and this series reflects that. Both teams have looked good at times but neither team has gotten too far from the other at any point. As has been the case throughout there wasn't much seperation this night either with the Wild having a slight shot advantage (32-29) but C.Price was just slightly better then his counterpart. Price stopped 30 of the 32 for the win and this series is once again all even.....you call it....heads or tails?? Looks like we could be heading for 7....Series tied at 2

Avs    1

Stars   3

Say it ain't so!!!! Really not alot to say about this game, which is bizaare for a playoff game involving GM Shuck, as it pretty much played out just the way the stat line suggests. GM Junya and his Stars once again did the unthinkable and completely shut down Colorado's high powered offense. Dallas out shot their opponent in each period, 32-24 overall and that simply is just not good enough if you expect to beat B.Bishop and the Stars. Remember when Junya was floundering near mid-pack and made a $50 bet with Rumpy he could win without a goalie?? Looks like swallowing his pride and losing the bet will now pay dividends as Bishop appears very solid and is the anchor needed to allow Dallas to continue this style of play. Colorado heads home looking to extend the series down 3-1
