Playoff Daily Recap
Isles 6
Bruins 2
As has been the case for pretty much this entire series the goaltending for Boston cannot contain the firepower of the Isles. Louis Domingue was the sacrificial lamb this night and 43 shots later he was looking at a 6-pack on the scoreboard. The Bruins didn't play horribly on this night but the Isles came to play early putting 18 shots and 3 goals on the board before the first ended and that would be all they needed for the game. Not much left to say here other then Boston had best find a way to keep NY under 3 or better yet shut them out if they hope to prolong this series past the next game. Going back to Long Isle with Isles up 3-1
CBJ 5
Pens 2
This series comes to a very quick end with a broom job but it really felt like it was closer then that. The bottom line is GM Jesse earned this series win as his team played well but the MVP of this series was clearly Markstrom as he was the better goalie game in and game out. Although MAF didn't play horribly he also was not the MAF of the past and couldn't steal a win when his team needed him or even secure a win when they outplayed Columbus. Columbus deserved to win this series with their consistant play and have earned a nice break to get healthy moving on to round 2.
Habs 1
Canes 4
In the battle of the back-ups L. Brossoit got the surprise start for the second straight game and out dueled F. Andersen for his second straight win. When asked about this GM Rich stated "Greiss wasn't 100% and if we started him and lost we likely wouldn't have had him in the next game facing elimination. If we were pushed to the end of the rope we wanted to make sure we could ice our top line-up and we are now very happy we did this". This was another in a growing list of even games that could have gone either way with the only real deciding factor was which goalie played better. The final shot totals were 35-32 for the Habs but this game was pretty much over at the end of the second when Carolina scored a pair to go up 4-1. Montreal was unable to get anything going in the third as Carolina played their best period of the game only allowing 9 shots against protecting their goalie and the win. Brand new series heading back to Montreal tied at 2
Sens 3
Bolts 0
This game was another battle of the back-ups as both starters needed a break and both played very well.....but one played perfect and not many goalies lose with a shutout! With the Sens up 2 games to 1 and on the road it was the perfect time to get Kuemper a rest but not only did C. Peterson did them a quality start he completely shut the door. This game was completely even....both had 29 shots on goal....both had 4 powerplays....but only 1 had S. Crosby and he was the difference maker setting up all 3 Sens goals enroute to the victory. With both starters expecting to return for the next game neither will have any advantage ....Tampa looks to stave off elimination heading to Ottawa down 3-1
