Playoff Daily Recap
2 more drop
Bruins 3
Isles 5
Well, for what seems like every game this series the Bruins goaltending couldn't stand up to the shooters of NY but this time it cost them the season. The Bruins played like the desperate team they were putting 15 first period shots on goal, the problem once again was they headed to the second down a goal despite scoring the first 2. To their credit the Bruins didn't quit and managed the only goal of the second to head to the third tied at 3. This game settled down into a bit of a defensive struggle late into the third and when Boston went to the PP with 5 minutes left it was the opportunity the Bruins were looking for. Thrill turned to disaster however as not only did Boston not score on the PP but gave up the go ahead goal in the process. The Isles added an empty netter to salt this one away and ended the series. Despite the loss the Bruins did manage to score over 3 goals/game for the series and their future looks bright provided they find a suitable tender going forward. Isles win 4-1
Canes 1
Habs 3
Well this was a let down...not only because my Canes lost but what a boring game! Montreal came out of the gate trying to regain control of this series throwing everything at the Carolina net for a first period shot total of 17 but left the period tied at 1. Could we perhaps see an appearance of 20M dollar man Greiss in this series???? Nope, top assist guy N. Backstrom netted a rare goal on 1 of the only 11 shots faced the rest of the way and B. Richardson put 1 into the empty net to seal it. I really have no idea wtf is going on in goal but Carolina doesn't appear to generate much offense with Greiss in net but plays in Montreals end with Brossoit manning the twine! Does Carolina risk playing Brossoit in an elimination game.....does Greiss start earning his gaudy salary....or does GM Steve just go to Carolina and blow them out???? We will soon see....game 6 coming up with Montreal up 3-2
Bolts 3
Sens 5
A disappointing finish to this game as well as the series ended what was otherwise was a solid season from Tampa. Like the Bruins series Tampa had a difficult time shutting down the Sens offense and tonight was no exception. Tampa got off on the right foot and took an early 3-0 lead but Ottawa managed to sneak a late period goal in to cut the lead to 3-1. That late goal appeared to have been the wake-up call needed for the home team and their fans as they completely dominated the second period outshooting the visitors 17-5 and potting 2 goals to tie. The third period was more of the same with Tampa just trying to stay in it but for the second straight period the shots were 17-5 and the score 2-0. This Ottawa offense is just so strong right now that anyone playing them had best find a way to contain the shots against as the goalies can't stand up to 40+ shots from this group as was the case this evening. Sens now get a rest after winning 4-1
