Playoff Daily Recap

Oilers    3

Vegas    2

In the first of tonights 2 games the hometown Knights appeared to be asleep at the wheel getting off to a 4 shot first period performance. Not exactly the kind of first period your looking for with the home crowd ready to errupt but the good news was the visiting Oilers didn't fully take advantage of their opportunity only netting 1 to take a slim lead. Vegas appeared to have gotten the message between periods from the coaching staff and came out with an inspired second period posting 16 shots for a 2 period total of 20 shots. The bad news was that despite only allowing 3 shots against Edmonton was once again able to score the only goal of the period expanding their lead to 2-0 heading to the third. The inconsistancy of Las Vegas continued on into the third as they let up a 3rd goal early on to fall behind 3-0 and that was that....or was it? Somehow, Vegas managed to net 2 goals to cut the lead to 1 and Edmonton was holding on for dear life. That was as close as Vegas would get on this evening and in truth was all they deserved this evening as well.....Edmonton played a great road game keeping the shots and chances low not allowing the crowd to get into it until very late. This series is far from over however as everyone is well aware that this Knight team can run off a string of wins at any point and they are not out until they ARE out! Edmonton heads home with a chance to close it up 3-2.

Wild    4

Stars   6

Well, we all expected this....maybe most of us a series ago but GM Al and his Wild have bowed out of this years playoffs. The good news this evening....the Wild found some offense, found a way to get some pucks past Bishop, got a lead and took it into the third! The bad news is D.Dubnyk picked a shitty time to play....well.....shitty! It is a pretty rare occassion to get 4 pucks past B.Bishop and rarer still to do it with under 30 shots but that is exactly what the Wild did. It is pretty rare to get 5 pucks past D.Dubnyk and rarer still to do it with under 30 shots and yet the Stars did that as well....throw in the empty netter and call it a series! This was a night that Minnesota should have been able to take advantage of but the consensus is the better team won. Kudos to GM Al for his quick turn around and his first playoff success. Stars moving on!
