Playoff Daily Recap

CBJ     4 (OT)

Isles   3

There are several strong teams that made this years playoffs and as has been the case throughout these playoffs these teams only go as far as their goaltending takes them. This game was another example of a goalie just taking a game away from the team that earned it. The Isles did everything right this game outshooting Columbus in all 3 periods and 46-27 overall leading up to overtime but J. Markstrom had the answer time and again. What was even more remarkable was the fact that Columbus was forced to play virtually the entire game with only 5 defense as J.Manson instigated a fight a mere 23 seconds into the first period resulting in his expulsion. With all those extra minutes being forced onto the remaining defense and fatigue the likely result, it was even more important for the goaltending to hold up and it did. Casey Cizikas ended the game rather quickly into overtime with his 3rd of the playoffs but the damage may be done as Markstrom was clearly worn out after this one and will likely be sitting the next game and providing this goes to game 7 won't be 100% then either. 1 step at a time I guess as CBJ heads home up 3-2 with a chance to end it!

Sens     4

Habs    3

This was a game both teams really felt they needed to have....the Sens just to stay alive....the Habs to end the chance of a comeback and to get some rest! The will to stay alive was apparently the stronger of the 2 wills in this one as the Sens staved off elimination with a dramatic win. The game started well for the Sens jumping out to an early 1-0 lead but before the period ended they found themselves trailing 3-1 despite outshooting Montreal 10-6. The inconsistant Sens goaltending looked to be their demise but the rest of the Sens rallied around their goalie and continued to press the game eventually snatching the lead away in the third on T.Seguins second PP goal of the game. J. Binnington once again did his part for the Habs giving them every opportunity to win but the Sens were full value on this night outplaying the hometown Habs in all 3 periods and going home with a well earned win under their belts. The Sens will once again try and stay alive trailing 3-2
