Daily Recap

Sens    0

CBJ     3

Not much really to say here other then the obvious quote "you can't win if you don't score!". While this looks like a bit of a wash-out game looking at the score there really wasn't a whole lot to choose between these teams on this night. Columbus was the better team throughout outshooting the visitors from Ottawa in all 3 frames and deserved the win but this game was rather uneventful. The home squad clearly had a plan to play a controlled game and once they had the lead it was all they would need as J. Markstrom simply shut the door pitching a 25 save shutout. Sens still feeling good with the split while Columbus breathes a little easier getting a win. Series tied at 1 heading to Ottawa.

Isles     3

Canes   2

Well, the second of 2 hard fought games ended in the same result....a Isles win! When spotted after the game GM Cordell was asked what he thought the difference has been so far and he didn't mince words with the response "we are getting outplayed at the most important position....goalie!"....when asked to elaborate he added this " the Isles were a little better tonight and probably deserved the win but we were the better team last game and we didn't.....our goaltending has been solid all year and continues to be but sometimes you need your goalie to be great and the Isles goalie has been to this point". "We either need to get more pucks toward the Islander goal or defend better but everyone needs to look in the mirror or this great season is just a fckn waste!" With the Isles taking both games on the road Carolina has a very uphill battle to get back into this and there have been some whispers of changes coming for game 3. Isles up 2-0

Caps    1

Leafs    3

Don't know much what to say other then I feel your pain GM Linke! In the recap following game 1 it was suggested that only an extreme effort from Hall of Fame goalie MAF could salvage a game from this talented Leaf squad. Well after getting peppered for 22 first period shots the visiting Caps found themselves in a 0-0 tie....check box A. The problem with getting steller goaltending is at some point you have to score yourselves to pay it off and by the third period it just appeared that MAF was out of gas or the Maple Leaf shooters had found the range to salt this game away. Despite their best efforts it was a predictable result now shifting to Washington where they hope some home cooking can help stave off this Leaf onslaught! Leafs up 2-0

Bruins    3

Habs      2

Say it ain't so Steve! The 2nd of the top 4 eastern seeds finds themselves in a world of trouble after dropping a second straight home decision heading on the road for game 3. Not much to like here for the homeside as Boston controlled this game from the opening puck drop until the final whistle despite the flattering score. The Habs were outshot all 3 periods for a game total of 39-28 against and if not for the stellar goaltending of J.Binnington we could have been looking at another 7-2 score. The funny thing about this game (not so funny for Steve) is that despite being outplayed the Habs actually took a 2-1 lead into the third but were once again outworked forcing Binnington into save after save. Eventually all good things come to an end and when the willy vet M.Koivu slipped his 1st of the playoffs in with a little over 5 to go in the game Binningtons great stat line was transformed into just another loss! Habs look to pack some scoring punch for the road trip trailing 2-0
