Daily Recap

CBJ 3 2OT

Sens 2

This great series came to an unfortunate end for the Senators and the rest of the BRHL universe as a Game 7 would have been great for us all to see. GM Jesse and his Bluejackets couldn't be happier however as they will now get a couple of well deserved days off to rest and heal after this epic battle. This series was as close as the score and in all fairness the Sens deserved a better fate on this evening. Ottawa controlled the game from the opening puck drop outshooting their opponent each and every period until surrendering the game winning goal in double overtime. J.Markstrom was on his game this evening to say the least stopping 58 of Ottawa's 60 shots and repeatedly keeping his team alive until P.Byron rewarded his goalie by netting the winner. There are no losers in this series but there is a winner. Jackets win 4-2

Canes 3

Isles 5

This game had a bit of mystery surrounding it as both GM's had a big decision to make regarding their goaltending situation. Both teams #1 tenders were a little fatigued and were not going to be 100% for Game 6 so would either team risk starting their back-up in this pivotal game or was starting the #1 goalie the bigger risk? Ultimately both GM's went with their #1 goalies but only 1 of those decisions was the correct one. When asked to comment GM Cordell had this to say: "We were leaning towards starting Bernier this evening and saving Corey for Game 7 but Jonathan was late arriving to the rink ! Our hand was kind of forced at that point and you all saw the result". Well, the result was a very poor start by one of the leagues best goalies statistically all season and it couldn't have come at a worst time. Crawford surrendered 4 goals on just 16 shots before getting the hook in the second and despite Carolina continuing to try a push their way back into the game those 4 goals against were just too much on this night. To add a little more salt to the wound for Carolina, Vasilevskiy had his most "human" game of the playoffs surrendering 3 goals and was just merely good in this one. Good was good enough however for the Isles and they will happily take the break to rest. Isles win 4-2

Habs 2

Bruins 3

Boston went home with their backs against the wall and a serious goaltending dilemma. Start all world goalie Rask at less then 100% or the ineffective Vlader in what could be your final game of the season? GM Greg chose to ride Rask into the ground further (who could blame him?) and deal with the fallout later, and now he will be forced to deal with that fallout. Rask is completely exhausted but he did his part keeping his team alive stopping 32 of 34 shots for the win. Boston played a very controlled game thru 2 periods limiting the shots against while taking advantage of their limited opportunities to the tune of a 2-0 lead. The third period was a whole other story however as the Habs knew that despite being behind and maybe even losing the game a hard push could potentially win them the series by fatiguing Rask more than he already was. That push came, 16 shots and 2 goals later it was all tied up and looking like overtime could be coming. Boston didn't panic however and R.Murray potted his 1st of the playoffs to help the Bruins live to fight another day. Did the Habs do enough in this one to win the series or can Boston do a Houdini and escape in game 7? Back to Montreal tied at 3
