Eastern Semi's
Isles 2
CBJ 5
In what was a close checking, low event game we somehow managed to arrive at this tilted ice finish. This game was clearly just a "feeling out" game as neither team appeared willing to open things up offensively which resulted in low shot totals for the game. CBJ finished with only 28 shots on goal while the Isles managed a mere 25 yet after some of the offensive games in these playoffs seen to this point you would have found more people thinking a 1-0 or 2-1 game would have been the result here. Inexplicably A. Vasilevskiy, despite a very easy game work wise, appeared out of sorts by the third period and despite only facing 9 shots in the frame allowed 3 goals to completely take his team out of it and deflate his bench along the way! Both A. Kempe and N.Kadri scored a pair for Columbus who will look to keep it rolling in Game 2. Isles will look to figure out what is wrong (if anything) with their tender and get back on the bike trailing 1-0
Habs 3
Leafs 5
The Leafs started their playoffs in earnest this evening facing a weary Montreal squad coming off of a 7 game battle royale and looked very much ready to prove their great regular season was no fluke. This game wasn't close and the score is very much flattering to the visitors as they were outplayed from the opening faceoff. Montreal had somehow managed a lead after a period and a 2-2 tie thru 2 periods despite being outplayed and outshot in both taking advantage of their limited opportunities. Things would not be left to chance in the third however as the Leafs pumped 22 shots on goal while netting 3 goals to leave no doubt who the victor was. The final shots for the game were 47-24 in favour of the Leafs and despite moving to 4-0 in these playoffs it was only the indifferent play of A. Khudobin that allowed the Habs to remain in the game. Habs will look for more offense in game 2 while Leafs will just look to keep keepin' on! Leafs lead 1-0
