Eastern Semi's
CBJ 3
Isles 6
All you pretty much have to know about this game is that for the second straight game J. Markstrom had to be lifted very early on after surrendering 4 goals. With the strength and depth of any of the playoff teams to say it is very unlikely that teams can or will overcome goaltending lapses of this nature is a huge understatement. This was a very competetive game throughout and the final shots reflected that ending 36-35 but the goaltending has been anything but close and expecting to come back from a 4-1 deficit was just too much to ask on this night. The one positive to come out of this game for Columbus is that A. Vasilevskiy will need at least 1 game off to recover from the heavy workload he has taken on. This will open the door for J. Markstrom who is 100% healthy and if he can regain some form may be able to run the table if Columbus can get that far. Columbus is heading home in deep shit trailing 3-1
Leafs 5
Habs 6 OT
We have seen this a few times before....an elite team having an easy go suddenly runs into a battle hardened squad and doesn't know how to deal with it! Like in the previous series a starting goalie barely lasted into the second period before being lifted and like in the previous series that deficit was too much to overcome. Yes the Leafs came back, yes the Leafs tied it up and actually took a lead, but at no point were the Leafs the better team on this night. Toronto took advantage of some opportune shooting and on most nights against most clubs scoring 5 goals on 33 shots would be good enough but not this night as they surrendered 6 goals on 46 shots against. The disappointing part for Toronto is A. Khudobin likely played his best hockey of the playoffs to this point in relief of starter T. Greiss in this losing effort and will now be unavailable to start the next game at least. Toronto also heads home in deep shit down 3-1
