The western finals kicked off with 2 high powered offenses meeting in Colorado and 8 goals later it was the hometown team gaining the victory. In another surprising move GM Bast once again went to a less then 100% J.Quick between the pipes and the result was an underwhelming 5 goals against and an .896 save %. To be fair to Quick he did face 48 shots and 3 of Colorado's goals came on the PP so there was plenty of blame to go around to his teammates as well. Vegas was a step behind for most of the game but headed late into the third tied at 3 and in a great position to steal away home ice. Colorado had other ideas however and took it to the weary visitors scoring a PPG with under 5 to play and then adding another later 1 to end any further thoughts of a comeback. The better team won on this eve and Vegas will look to even up in game 2. Aves lead 1-0
