After already stealing home ice with a victory in Game 1 the Isles returned to the scene of the crime looking to double-down and put GM Steve and his Habs in a stranglehold. The Isles were looking good through 2 periods holding a 3-2 lead and with A. Vasilevskiy in goal were pretty confident they could get the job done. Strangely enough the hockey gods decided to have a little fun and flip the script. Montreal tied it early in the third on the PP and then scored again to take the lead and the win. Nothing really strange about that other then the Isles best period of the game was the third and Vasilevskiy doesn't give away third period leads! All is well in both camps now however as the Isles still have the split they were looking for and Montreal avoided a disasterous series start. Back to New York tied at 1
