Rex Vs Dan: A timeline

After reviewing the evidence, here are my findings

In the wee hours of Free Agency, talks between Detroit (Dan) and Seattle (Rex) hit it off. The centre of attention? 1 Mr. Laurent Brossoit. A backup goalie for the Winnipeg Jets in the NHL, gifted with super ratings thanks to the overly skewed calculator, and current property of the BRHL Detroit Red Wings. So with a twinkle in his eye, and a raging boner in his pants, Rex, a man obsessed with goaltenders of all shapes and sizes, began his courtship. Talks quickly went from smouldering to sizzling, with Rex and Dan coming to terms on a suitable sign and trade for Mr Brossoit, or so they thought. There in lies the issue. But I digress. The head strong Shuck quickly sent in his offer, 5 years at 1.3m per. That was a condition in the sign and trade, that Rex be able to sign Laurent at those terms. But there was another underlying issue that Mr Sanders addressed. He wanted a guarantee from Rex that Rex wouldn’t bid up ANY of his other RFAs. Fine by Rex, but not by Dan. Dan was so concerned about this, he wanted there to be a condition inserted into the offer that mandates if Rex were to bid up another of Dan’s RFA’s, he’d forfeit a 1st round pick. Clearly at this point, there’s trust issues. Rex says he won’t bid up any other RFA’s, and quickly works to submit the offer on the site to Dan. However, instead of including the conditional 1st, as Dan requested in writing, Rex decides a future 3rd was sufficient and said that Dan would, and I quote, “I think you’ll like it.” Indicating that the offer at that point isn’t yet accepted. Why would Dan “like” an offer he already agreed upon? Daniel, failing to get the condition he requested, decides to put Laurent Brossoit on the trade block. The predator known as Greg quickly swoops in, comes to terms with Dan, and ups Devon’s bid. That’s right!  By this point, the middle Cordell had already bid up Rex’s offer, without any trade talks with Dan. Dan and Greg quickly complete their agreed upon sign and trade and the rest is history. Or is it?!?

Now if you’re still reading this, we’re gonna get technical. So strap the fuck in. Rex, of the belief that he and Dan had agreed to a sign and trade, becomes slightly perturbed with the fact that Dan broke the rules, decides to go public with his accusations. His point on contention? Dan violated Section 18 Sub Section C that states “once you’ve solicited a sign and trade, you MAY NOT continue to shop the player.” Rex is demanding blood. He wants Dan burned at the stake, fired and fined. However, Dan’s rebuttal is simple, at no point in Dan’s mind was a sign and trade finalized between Dan and Rex.  Given that Rex changed the condition of the offer without Dan’s approval, and without a trade call being submitted to Bryce and Eric, there wasn’t a valid trade in place, therefore he was free to shop Brossoit, as in his mind, talks with Rex had broken down.

So on 1 hand we have Seattle, who is a lover scorned by Detroit. Despite attempting some shady negotiations in the end by attempting to slide an amended offer by Detroit. Failed to negotiate in good faith, failed to get his counter offer accepted, and failed to initiate a trade call. On the other hand we have Detroit, who doesn’t come out of this unscathed, as he shopped Brossoit while failing to act in “good faith” by not initially trying to finalize the agreement with Rex, despite his validated lack of trust in Rex’s dealings.

Where was the breakdown? In the end, it’s clear that Rex’s underhanded attempt to push Dan into agreeing to something that Dan wasn’t going to agree to, and his bullish behaviour that Dan should be held accountable is nothing more than an attempt to hold someone to a higher standard than he holds himself. Procedural breakdowns were such that in the end there wasn’t an agreement in place, and Dan didn’t break any rules on continuing to advertise a sign and trade for Brossoit.

THANK YOU FOR COMING TO MY TED TALK

XOXO,

As always, I was right. Nothing was sent in to the Commissioner's office, which does NOT make it an official Sign and Trade. I'll be here when you need the next thing sorted out. But please go back and enjoy some of the great pictures I posted. -Master Yoda
