Master Yoda's State of the BRHL - PACIFIC EDITION

Well look who finally showed up to the party!

The Pacific division was always a joke and usually had a tanking team making the playoffs.  This year they have 4 teams that could make it to the Cup Finals!  Yolo!  I do believe they will send 4 teams to the playoffs.  No matter who gets the Wildcard spot, they will be tough competition for the 1st or 2nd seed.  Shall we see who actually has a chance?

1. Anaheim Ducks (10-1-0, 20pts)

The Ducks lone loss came at the hands of the Flames.  That is a team that Master Yoda thought would be at the top, so not a bad loss at all.  Ducks have had a decent schedule getting quality wins against the Wild x2, Oilers, and Habs.  They are 2nd in goals for (3.82) and 4th in goals against (1.82), so they are very well balanced.  This team is stacked and I think they will be the one to make it to the Cup Finals, beating out the Stars in the Conference Finals.  Let's see if GM Devon adds to this already stacked roster and run away with it.

2. San Jose Sharks (9-1-0, 18pts)

This team is possibly the most overhyped team in history, due to it's GM Sumit Singh.  The team has 2 GREAT lines and a goalie ,but the defense is ATROCIOUS!  GM Sumit did a fantastic job taking a terrible team and making it competitive, but it was at a huge cost.  He has to win the cup this year, as their chances are zero for the next 5 years or so.  He has mortgaged the future so much that the next 1st round pick available is in 2025.  It will take years for that team to recover.  As for this year, They have a good team, but not good enough.  They may win a round or 2, but that's it.  I know we will hear form the the GM all year, but it will be all for nothing.  He does have 3 quality wins again Habs x2 and Bruins, but lost to another pretender in the Blues.  This was a terrible year for GM Sumit to go all in, too much competition.

3. Edmonton Oilers (7-1-1, 15pts)

GM Yu has a great team and came off a year where they were a win away from making the Conference Finals.  His team has rerated very well and will threaten to make the Finals again.  Oilers are second in goals against (1.67), but is in the bottom half of goals for (18th).  They will need to improve on scoring to be able to get over the hump.  They only have 1 quality win against the Flames and losses to the Ducks and mediocre Knights.  This team needs a change as their goals for won't improve as they start playing better teams.  What will GM Yu do to stay competitive?

4. Calgary Flames (7-3-0, 14pts)

After a couple down years, GM Kevin has finally come back with a hell of a team.  This team was my pick to be the best team overall.  He has scoring, passing, defense, balance, goaltending, everything.  So, why is he only 4th in the Pacific?  I don't think he will stay down there too long.  Luckily for the Central, the Ducks and Flames will play each other, knocking one of them out in the playoffs.  This team has beaten the Ducks and Capitals and has lost to good teams like the Oilers and Stars.  They have a horrific loss to the Red Wings, though.  With their goals for and against both being 7th in the league, there is still room for improvement.  Will GM Kevin make any moves or changes to his strategy?  They did win 6 straight until they ran into a tough Stars team, so maybe they already made the turn.  We will find out.

5. Vegas Golden Knights (5-4-1, 11pts)

GM Joe has a team that didn't rerate well and is competing against some juggernauts.  The Knights are too good to tank, but aren't good enough to compete.  He will probably have to punt this year.  The Knights players are looking very good for next year, so he won't be tanking for long.  Let's see what he does with Weber and his final year.

6. Los Angeles Kings (4-5-1,9 pts)

New Tyler has taken over a decent team, but as it always has been, just an average team that Rumpy thought was the best of all time.  It will be interesting what direction he wil go, as the newbies always hesitate and end up not maximizing their opportunities (see Al and Larry).  He doesn't have the team to even come close to makinge the playoffs this year, so selling seems like a good idea.  He has been relatively quiet and (I think) only has made the Barzal trade.  Someone help this guy out!

7. Arizona Coyotes (3-5-2, 8pts)

GM Joel is definately in a rebuild and has some nice pieces.  He won't be competing anytime soon and should be an easy win for any competing team.

8. Vancouver Canucks (3-6-1, 7pts)

GM Rob had thought he was going to compete and I don't blame him.  He has some good pieces, but they are not coming together to win games.  He has had a rough schedule and lost to the likes of the Oilers x2, Hawks, Wild, and Flyers x2.  The concern is that he hasn't been able to beat any of the good competition.  We will find out soon enough what he will do.
