Mid Year Review - ATLANTIC EDITION
One man show happening in the Atlantic Division
GM Greg Uppercut has a really easy road to win the division, possibly easiest ever. After the Bruins, the next best team is fighting to stay above .500. This division is incredibly boring, unless if you are watching the tank race. Greg really won't know how he stands up against the rest of the league until the playoffs. Let's take a closer look at this flaming piece of garbage called the Atlantic.
1. Boston Bruins (34-10-2, 70pts)
Greg's Bruins are tearing through the division, showing them who's boss. The Bruins are up 15pts on the 2nd place Canadiens with 4 games in hand. No way Greg loses the division, but doesn't really matter until the playoffs. There is cause for concern as he has been playing terrible competition, yet he's only 9th GF. They are 4th GA, so that's huge plus. He will have to make a decision to add or not add, that is the question. Let's see how much he commits to winning this year.
2. Montreal Canadiens (26-21-3, 55pts)
What is going on?! GM Steve had all the intentions to try to win the cup, but his team is playing like Hellen Keller playing darts. He's second by default and is a miserable 20th GF and 18th GA. He's got a negative goal differential and he's second. Yikes! it will be interesting to see if holds onto Russell and Gudas, as they are his best rental pieces. Could a 2nd seed really sell at the deadline?
3. Toronto Maple Leafs (21-21-6, 48pts)
This Leafs team is in purgatory, as they are too good to tank with the worst, but has no chance to win the cup. GM Garrett has a nice team on the rise with a lot of youth. Surprisingly, the Leafs have a few good rental pieces they can sell off. I could see them being active by the trade deadline. At this point, there is no need to pretend like he's a contender and just sell off before all the buyers are gone.
4. Florida Panthers (18-23-6, 42pts)
As the early predictions stated, there is nothing here. GM Sober Ty does have 2 assets worth something, so let's see where he sends those off to. He is 16th GF, I guess that's kind of an accomplishment.
5. Ottawa Senators (15-29-4, 34pts)
Sens GM Esteban is tanking the best he can, but he has too many good players as well. Not sure he made the right decision by tanking with the team he had, but I think he got too bored having a good team, but not good enough to win the cup. He has Kadri to trade, but only as a rental. Great thing about Steph is that he is active no matter what because he gets bored. Steph let's see some fireworks!
6. Detroit Red Wings (15-29-4, 34pts)
I think Dan is already looking forward to the cup next year. This team has no shot this season, but is looking studly next season. Has no rentals to trade, but I am sure he will be active. He's just counting down the days until the draft and the start of the '22-'23 season.
7. Buffalo Sabres (10-31-6, 26pts)
Del Zotto anyone? Only rental piece available for the 3rd worst team in the league. GM Jarod has gathered some young talent, but they are a few years away. Obviously, this season is over, but he will have the draft to look forward to, for years to come.
8. Tampa Bay Lightning (10-34-2, 22pts)
Tampa has no chance this year, but has some nice pieces in the coming years. Troy Terry is one of the best players in the league, so GM Eric has that going for him. They are the worst team in the league, so he's looking forward to losing the lottery draft and picking #3. He's got some nice rerates coming, so this is the year to get 1st overall. No rentals here either.
