Daily Recap
East kicks off
Flyers 2
Caps 3
The Eastern conference kicked off with the return of one of the most storied franchises (Philly) FINALLY making a post season appearance against the Caps and the BFGTDDBNGTB#( or whatever ) GM of all time! Philly got off to as good a start as any Flyer fan would want taking a 2-0 lead to the first intermission but that was as good as it got for the city of brotherly love as it was all Caps from there! The hometown Caps played a very complete game from start to finish outshooting their opponents in all 3 periods but it wasn't until very late into the third that Washington was finally rewarded with their first and only lead of the evening. The score was close...the game was close.... and if this game is any indication of what is to come then the series will be close! Caps up 1-0
Isles 1
Canes 3
"Blueballs" and his Isles rolled into town to face off with the hometown Canes and despite being the lower seed were/are still one of the season and playoff picks to finish atop the Eastern Conference. The raucous crowd and the Hurricanes players had other ideas however and outplayed their opponents from start to finish outshooting the visitors 38-24 enroute to a 3-1 victory. A. Vasilevskiy was very solid in goal for the visitors from New York stopping 35 shots but the Canes were not to be denied and were rewarded for their efforts earning this convincing Game 1 victory. Isles still with a chance to steal home ice trailing 1-0
CBJ 5
Bruins 2
This game has to be considered a bit of a shocker for most around the BRHL...not because CBJ was able to upset Boston in Boston but more about how easy it appeared to be! Let's not all start talking about a broom job here as Game 1 is anything but a series win but GM Jesse and his move to acquire M.Smith at the deadline has to feel pretty good about now. This game wasn't nearly the lopsided affair that the score would indicate as both teams had their times to shine but Smith was simply the better goalie on this night then Saros was and that ultimately decided this game! Boston will look to right the ship in game 2 now trailing in the series down 1-0
Leafs 3
Habs 4 (OT)
In the second nailbiter game of the evening Montreal was able to slide by the visitors from Toronto in what was really a story of two games. Toronto was able to build a nice lead thru 2 periods taking a 3-1 lead into the third despite the shots and game being pretty even throughout. The third period started however and the Leafs apparently thought the game ended after the second as they were completely bitch-slapped to the tune of a 21-3 shot disadvantage and a 2-0 score. The fact that this game even got to overtime was a testiment to how well "goalie Bob" played (44 saves) keeping his team alive. The Leafs seemed to gain some energy and get their shit back in a pile to start overtime as both teams had early opportunities to end this one but Brock Nelson was able to net his first of the playoffs just over 6 minutes into the extra frame to end it. Habs get the early jump up 1-0
