Jets Comprehensive Mock Draft
I need cash, so be generous Bryce and Eric as a lot of work into this one!
Future Look-based Draft Predictions BRHL 2022
Here we endeavour to review each team’s top players/prospects under 23 years of age at forward, defense and goal and use this and available players to predict each teams moves in our first round. A lot of work, but I need the $$$
1. Lightning
Top players and prospects under 23:
Forward :Nick Roberston, Zayde Wisdom, JL Foudy, Filip Hallander
Defense: Justin Barron, Timothy Lilijegren, Mikko Kokkenen, Jake Sanderson
Goal: Colton Point, Calle Clang, Devon Levi
The pick: Owen Power – Nothing has changed. Though the Lightning quality youth is better on the point, Power has impressed since joining the NHL and he looks like every little bit a #1 dman. No matter the team winning the lottery, I think he is the pick.
Stats line:
UofM – 33gp 3g 29a 32 pts
NHL – 8g 2g 1 a 3 pts
2. Coyotes
Top players and prospects under 23:
Forward: Nick Suzuki, Peyton Krebs, Phillip Kurashev,
Defense: K’Andre Miller, Henri Jokiharju, Adam Boqvist,
Goal: Mads Sogaard
The pick: Matt Beniers – With needs at both forward, defense and goal, The Yotes take whomever is left over between Power or Benier. Benier is showing elite hands and vision in NHL debut. Has been near a point per game so far for Kraken. Will it translate to a top line centre or more a 2nd line type, time will tell.
Stats line:
UofM – 37gp 20g 23a 43 pts
NHL – 9g 3g 5a 8 pts
3. Sabres
Top players and prospects under 23:
Forward: Gabe Vilardi, Dylan Cozens, Joe Veleno, Alex Turcotte, Kole Lind, Jesse Ylonen, Dawson Mercer, Jack McBain, Thomas Bordeleau
Defense: Ty Smith, Eva Bouchard, Lassi Thomson, Jamie Drysdale, Mattias Norlinder
Goal:
The pick: Luke Hughes - This one is tougher. Given the Sabres depth up front and defense in term of prospects, I think they go BPA on their board. I am not sure who this will be. On mine it is either McTavish, Hughes, Johnson, Eklund are the next 4 on the board. With more top end talent up front, I suspect this might be one of the dmen, and that might be Luke Hughes who should have been nominated for the Hobey in his first NCAA season with an outstanding year at UofM with 17 goals as a defenseman on a very deep UofM team.
Stats line:
UofM – 41gp 17g 22a 39 pts
4. Jets
Top players and prospects under 23:
Forward: Akil Thomas, Albin Grewe, Serron Noel, Sam Poulin, Ty Tullio, Yegor Chinakov
Defense: Thomas Harley, Ryan O’Rourke, Kaeden Korczak, Artemi Knyzaev, Phil Broberg, Lukas Cormier
Goal: Ivan Proszevotov
The Pick: Mason McTavish – My team is desperate at all levels of youth in our rebuild so BPA will be my moniker in draft. Of the remaining guys, in McTavish, I see Ryan Getzlaf 2.0. Solid two way forward with hands. Played all over this year from WJC (5 pts in 2 gp), Olympics (1 a in 5gp), the OHL and pros. He is my pick if I am picking outside the top two.
Stats line:
OHL – 29 gp 20g 27a 47 pts.
AHL – 3 gp 1g 1a 2 pts
NHL – 9gp 2g 1a 3 pts
5. Penguins
Top players and prospects under 23:
Forward: Quinton Byfield, Cole Perfetti, Tyson Foerster, Alexander Holtz
Defense: Ryan Merkley, Roni Hirvonen
Goal: Nicolas Daws
The pick - Kent Johnson – Though defense is a need and could see Edvinson or Brandt being the pick, the super slick handed Johnson think is pick. Had a pt per game at Olympics. Graduated to NHL so team drafting knows available in next year and as such moves him up my board.
Stats Line:
NHL – 9gp 0g 3a 3 pts
UofM – 32 gp 8g 28a 37pts
Olympics 5 gp 1g 4a
6. Redwings
Top players and prospects under 23:
Forward:Nico Hischier, Kirby Dach, Jack Hughes, Robert Thomas, Jason Robertson, Kaapo Kaako, Antonio Stranges Seth Jarvis, JJ Peterka,
Defense: Nic Hague, Juuso Valimaki, Kaiden Guhle
Goal:
The pick –Jesper Wallstedt. I think based on the depth of forwards that Wings have under 23 (does not include few studs who are 23 such as Tage Thompson) I see either defense or goal being prioritized. That offense is ready to role, but they need a solid tender or defense. Edvinson, Clarke Cossa, or Wallstedt I see as the pick here. Going to be bold and call Wallstedt very early based on need and quality.
Stats Line:
SHL – 22 gp 1.98 GAA 0.918 Sv Pct 3 SO
7. Kraken
Top players and prospects under 23:
Forward: Elias Petterson, Kailer Yamamoto, Rasmus Kupari, Raphael Lavoie, Sam Fagemo, Carter Savoie, Dylan Holloway,
Defense Rasmus Dahlin, Miro Heiskanen
Goal Dustin Wolf, Jeremy Swayman, Joel Hofer, Lukas Dostal, Pyotr Kotchekov
The pick Simon Edvinsson. While I would not be surprised if the continued cornering of the goaltending market occurs with Cossa or Wallstedt if available, Edvinsson would be the pick here based on need for future if Wallstedt is gone.
Stats line:
SHL 44gp 2g 17a 19pts
8. Rangers
Top players and prospects under 23:
Forward: Josh Norris, Isaac Lundestrom, Michael Rasmussen, Dillon Dube, Casey Mittelstadt, Emil Bemstrom, Martin Kaut, Connor Zary, Hendrix Lapierre, Marco Rossi, Mavrik Bourque
Defense: Urho Vaakanainen, Rasmus Sandin, Cale Makar, Alexander Romanov
Goal:
The pick Brandt Clarke. Many see this young man’s upside as Doughty-esque. Skates like the wind. With excellent depth up front, I could see them take a chance on Clarke. If Wallstedt were here though, I can see him being picked as lack a solid prospect to my eye under 23 in the nets for future.
Stats line:
OHL 55 gp 11g 48 a 59 pts
9. Canucks
Top players and prospects under 23:
Forward: Max Comtois, Nils Hoglander, Filip Zadina, Owen Tippett, Matthew Boldy, Vasili Podkolzin
Defense: Jack Rathbone
Goal:
The pick is William Eklund. Though depth at defense under 23 is lacking vs forward Eklund is the best pick available here and suspect is where Canucks go. With Demko locking down nets for many years to come, goal is not a need. Looked good in 9 game stint with SJ. Was surprised they did not keep them I can see being picked higher as well given that success, but his stats on return to SHL and since last review I think he drops a little. In two games at WJC, 3 points showed ready to dominate with best. At Djurgardens of SHL has 13 pts in 23 games as a teenager, but only one goal. Might drop to 6-7 depending on teams interest.
Stats Line:
NHL – 9gp 0g 4a
SHL – 29gp 1g 13a 14 pt
10. Panthers
Top players and prospects under 23:
Forward: Ryan Poehling, Filip Chytil, Oliver Wahlstrom, Cole Caulfield, Connor McMichael, Marat Khusnutdinov, Nick Abruzzese, Ozzy Wiesblatt, Rodion Amirov,
Defense: Nicolas Beaudin, Kevin Bahl, Dylan Samberg, Shakir Mukhamadullin
Goal: Daniil Tarasov
The pick is Cole Sillinger. NHL player this year with 79 games played with 31 pts, including 16 goals. He will play a good two way game. Not super skilled, but works and solid defense will come. Quality pick at 10. Also could sneak into the top 10.
Stats Line:
NHL – 79gp 16g 15a 31 pts
11. Predators
Top players and prospects under 23:
Forward: Martin Necas, Ty Dellandrea, Jacob Perrault, Anton Lundell, Jake Neighbours, Landon Slaggert
Defense: William Wallinder
Goal:
Though the preds hope one of the top dmen drop, the pick is Dylan Guenther. He ripped up the WHL and could push for top 10 as well. Some think top 5. If one of the top dmen is not here, the Preds will take the BPA. I can’t see Cossa this early and as such, its best forward. Given the numbers on Guenther, he might not make it to 11.
Stats Line:
WHL 59gp 45g 46a 91 pts.
12. Senators
Top players and prospects under 23:
Forward: Shane Bowers
Defense:
Goal:
What happened to the tank? The pick is BPA. The first of three first rounders to restock the rebuilding Sens as very little quality under 23 years of age. I see needs across the board so Steph takes BPA. On my board that is Wyatt Johnson. Johnson is climbing up everyone’s draft board after the COVID draft had him pegged lower. In our draft, he will not get out of the top 15.
Stats Line:
OHL 68gp 46 g 78a 124 pts.
13. Devils
Top players and prospects under 23:
Forward: Tim Stutzle, Aleksei Protas, Bobby Brink, Nathan Smith
Defense: Sean Durzi,
Goal: Michael Dipietro
Like Steph, Ken’s devils are somewhat barren. On my board, the pick is Brennan Othmann though Johnson might be the pick. Tore up the OHL and from what heard was a late cut at Rangers camp. Won’t be long until makes NHL debut.
Stats Line:
OHL 66 gp 50g 47a 97 pts
14. Kraken (from Kings)
Top players and prospects under 23:
Forward: Elias Petterson, Kailer Yamamoto, Rasmus Kupari, Raphael Lavoie, Sam Fagemo, Carter Savoie, Dylan Holloway,
Defense Rasmus Dahlin, Miro Heiskanen
Goal Dustin Wolf, Jeremy Swayman, Joel Hofer, Lukas Dostal, Pyotr Kotchekov
Defense in first pick of first round, I suspect forward for the next round. Next best player on my board is Chaz Lucius. The college freshman was considered the top sniper in the draft. He had a solid year, and was convinced to go pro signing his contract this week. As such, will be BRHL ready soon and suspect will not fall.
Stats Line:
NCAA 24 gp 9g 10a 19pts
15. Panthers (from Avalanche)
Top players and prospects under 23:
Forward: Ryan Poehling, Filip Chytil, Oliver Wahlstrom, Cole Caulfield, Connor McMichael, Marat Khusnutdinov, Nick Abruzzese, Ozzy Wiesblatt, Rodion Amirov,
Defense: Nicolas Beaudin, Kevin Bahl, Dylan Samberg, Shakir Mukhamadullin
Goal: Daniil Tarasov
The pick is Sebastian Cossa. Two lottery picks for Panthers has them pumped!! If they are mid round, I suspect they bolster a young team core with the next best goaltender with the monster Cosa.

16. Golden Knights
Top players and prospects under 23:
Forward: Morgan Barron, Jesper Boqvist, Alex Formenton,
Defense: Sam Bolduc, Bowen Byram,
Goal: Carter Hart
What the Knights didn’t make the playoffs? With 5 (count em!) first round picks, I suspect they package this pick and others to move up for quality. I know if I am not in top 5, I might just listen! If at 16 though, they will take best on their board with needs across the spectrum. On my board, that is Aatu Raty. As with many kids who were overlooked during COVID, the same happened with Aatu. Considered a sure first rounder he dropped like a stone. After an amazing under 18 post draft, his stock skyrocketed back into first round. He goes here. Word has it, the Isles nearly kept him for 9 game stint to start year. He signed with Isles and is now playing for Bridgeport.
Stats Line:

17. Maple Leafs
Top players and prospects under 23:
Forward: Cody Glass, Isaac Ratcliffe, Will Bitten, Jay O’Brien
Defense: PO Joseph, Cal Foote, Jordan Spence, Matthew Robertson,
Goal: Oliver Rodrigue
As always, Garrett will take BPA and let them stew in minors until ready. He is a leafs fan though, and given the fanfare for Matthew Knies he is the pick here. Knies has size, hands and skates well for a big man. Does not shy away from throwing weight around too, something many of the Leafs large forwards don’t do! I have no doubt if he is there, G takes him.

Defense: Ryan Merkley, Roni Hirvonen
Goal: Nicolas Daws
After forward pick with first pick and depth needed across board, I think they go defense next. Carson Lambos has been a stud in the WHL. Minny prospect, they develop defense well and think he will be no different. Made team Canada for WJC. He will go higher in our draft.
Stat Lines:

Top players and prospects under 23:

Defense: Sam Bolduc, Bowen Byram,
Goal: Carter Hart
With so many picks, they continue to just go from their list. Next on mine is Matt Coronato. A point per game in the NCAA and elite skills showed at USHL prior. Oh and he is smart apparently as attends Harvard.
Stat Lines

Top players and prospects under 23:
Forward: Brady Tkachuk, Alex Lafrenniere, Shane Pinto, German Rubtsov
Defense: Martin Fehervary, Jacob Bernard-Docker
Goal: Joe Woll
The first of several firsts again for Kevin. Its like the sunrise…you can always count on Kevin having multiple firsts. The pick is Zach Bolduc. The Blues have an eye for developing and this kid is among only a handful who potted 50 goals this year.
Stats Line:
QMJHL – 64gp 52g 43a 95 pts
21. Oilers
Top players and prospects under 23:
Forward: Jan Mysak, Jakob Pelletier, Jake Wise
Defense:
Goal:
While the cupboards are barren, with McD and Auston as 1-2 Centres you can afford to restock slowly. BPA is pick and at this stage, the Oil takes the Oilers of the NHL top pick. Xavier Bourgault has been solid all year.
Stats Line:
QMJHL 43 gp 36g 39a 75 pts
22. Golden Knights (From the Flyers)
Top players and prospects under 23:
Forward: Morgan Barron, Jesper Boqvist, Alex Formenton,
Defense: Sam Bolduc, Bowen Byram,
Goal: Carter Hart
I still can’t see Joe not moving up, but keep up trend with BPA. Janis Moser has played in the NHL and is ready for BRHL now. He will go at some point in the first, and with so many picks, the Knights step up and take the top 6 ready dman.
Stats Line:
AHL – 18gp 5g 7a 12pts

Defense: Sam Bolduc, Bowen Byram,
Goal: Carter Hart
Back to back picks even in the first round. Surely the Knights are going to move up or make a move. Corson Ceulemans is the latest drawing attention. The last dman from AJHL impacting the game like him was Makar and we know how that has turned out. Interestingly, in Cale’s first year he had 34gp 5g 16a. While I don’t see Ceuleman skating quite like Makar, his skill set seems similar.

Top players and prospects under 23:
Forward: Jan Mysak, Jakob Pelletier, Jake Wise
Defense:
Goal:
The Oilers 2nd pick will be BPA to restock the cabinet. I hate Buffalo picks, but a 10 position slide is enough and Isak Rosen goes here. Quiet year and could see him drop further.

BPA for Kevin again. Fyodor Svechov was a pt per game player in the VHL and had a cup of coffee in the KHL. Kevin has time and lets kids develop as seen by his AHL and spect list that is 950 kids deep.
Stats Line:
VHL 30gp 9g 22a 31 pts

26. Blues
Top players and prospects under 23:
Forward: Eetu Luostarainen, Brandon Hagel, Ryan Suzuki, Jack Quinn,
Defense: Mario Ferraro, Noah Dobson, Alex Alexyeev, Braden Schneider
Goal:
Some solid defense with Dobson and Schneider graduating to the BRHL very soon. Do the Blues take BPA from NHL draft or go off the board. Next player in NHL draft is Fabian Lysell. Bruins always have value with heavy Northeastern population in this league and will have value. Being in North America for first time looks to have slowed development but is always a big year when kids come over for first time.
Stats Line:
WHL 52 gp 22g 40a 62 pts
27. Lightning (from Sharks)
Top players and prospects under 21:
Forward Nick Roberston, Zayde Wisdom, JL Foudy, Filip Hallander
Defense Justin Barron, Timothy Lilijegren, Mikko Kokkenen, Jake Sanderson, Owen Power
Goal Colton Point, Calle Clang, Devon Levi
The pick: Logan Stankoven. With Power joining a stable with Barron, Sanderson and Liljegren, there is a greater need at forward for this pick. As such, I suspect the Bolts take a chance on the kid screaming up prospect rankings. Had a blinder of a season in the WHL and made the WJC. Dallas had an outstanding NHL draft with this guy and Wyatt Johnson last season.
Stats Line:

28. Sens (from the Hawks)
Top players and prospects under 23:
Forward: Shane Bowers
Defense:
Goal:
I suspect that Steph goes BPA here but the question is who? Mackie Samoskevich had a good NCAA freshman year, but on a stacked UM team, his numbers were not as strong. It does not change his talent though and think he still is taken in our first round.

BPA for Kevin again. Scott Morrow was a borderline first rounder last year but with a solid NCAA season as a freshman dman, he will not miss our first round. He outscored Makar’s first season at UMass. Kevin just stockpiles another solid spect and will wait until he goes pro.
Stats Line:

30. Sens (from the Bruins)
Top players and prospects under 23:

Goal:
Who does Steph like best here? I’d say a Sens pick in 2nd but I did not like season from Ostapchuk that much to take in first….He might take a flier on the stone that is Tyler Boucher though. 10th overall to nearly out of our first round. If this wasn’t a Sens fan here, I suspect he does drop out. Tough year for the kid at NCAA saw him transfer out to the OHL where he wasn’t that good on arrival either. Most feel he was a massive stretch in the NHL at 10 and he is proving it.

Defense: Sam Bolduc, Bowen Byram,
Goal: Carter Hart
Do the Knights go Knights NHL? Though Dean is a consideration, I think Oscar Olausson is the play. He struggled some adjusting to the OHL from Sweden but think he stays in our first round.
Stats Line:

Defense: Jack Rathbone
Goal:
With Eklund previously and no elite defense, suspect Canucks 2nd pick is defense. Next available in NHL is Mailloux but I cannot see a team taking this early with his “issues” and only 12 gp this season. Suspect it is either Nolan Allan or Olen Zellweger and will go with OZ given his offensive upside and skating ability.
