Daily Recap

Eastern Game 4's

Caps      0

Flyers    2

I am going to be completely honest and say that following the first 2 games of this series and a 2-0 Caps lead I wasn't expecting this series to last longer than 5 games. Philly looked like shit in the 2 losses and when they were forced into using back-up C. Driedger for Game 3 it was a very bleak picture. What was expected vs. what happened were complete opposites however as Driedger followed a strong Game 3 with a perfect Game 4 and now appears to be the starter of choice for "Bologna boy". As Washingtons GM Linke correctly pointed out this is now an even series with both teams holding serve and if both continue to do so then the Caps win with home ice. Regardless of how this shakes out it is at least going 6 and will be a tough out for both! Series tied at 2 heading back to Washington.

Canes    4

Isles      1

New York came into Game 4 coming off a win and were looking to double down to even up this series. They got off to a good start aided by an early first period PP when the Isles jumped out to a 1-0 lead to electrify the home crowd but that was just about it for the homeside on this night. The Canes dominated every facet of the game from that point on outshooting New York 41-23 and outscoring them 4-0 the rest of the way. A. Vasilevskiy gave up another 4 goals in this one despite appearing fully healthy but this loss can hardly be hung on him after making 37 saves. Isles in a world of trouble trailing 3-1 heading to Carolina

Bruins   2

CBJ       1

Unlike the Western Conference games the East hasn't carried the same WTF factor but this series may be the exception. That this series is tight and after this game is going at least 6 games to decide it is not strange at all. The WTF is how we got to this point as Boston was completely off of their game in the first 3 and should have been trailing 3-0. Boston had literally shown no signs of life heading into tonight and there was no reason to expect anything to change...what happens? Boston heads into Columbus, pumps 42 shots on goal, and comes away with a well deserved win to even the series. This series that felt over 3 Games in suddenly tilts back into GM Gregs favor back on serve and holding home ice once again. All tied at 2 heading back to Beantown

Habs    4

Leafs   2

After dropping the first 3 games of this series in a rather dull fashion the Leafs were looking to prolong this series and salvage something from this abysmal playoff run. Toronto did just that opening up a 2-0 lead under 3 minutes into the second frame but thats when the visitors from Montreal started to find their game. B. Nelson responded with 2 goals of his own before the second period ended sending the teams to the dressing room tied. Despite Toronto likely playing their best period of hockey in the third it was Montreal that got the go ahead goal on the PP and then salted the win away with an empty netter eliminating them from further play. Habs sit back and rest after advancing 4-0
