Daily Recap
Everyone stays alive
Oilers 2
Ducks 4
This was a win GM Devon and his Ducks had to have and not just for the obvious reason of staying alive. The Oilers didn't just lose this game but may have just pissed away their chance of moving on as not only did they lay an egg on the scoresheet but also pretty much allowed a tired J.Oettinger a much needed night off. Posting a very disappointing 22 shots on goal while surrendering a big lead did nothing for the Oiler confidence while giving some life to a very subdued Duck squad. This is clearly not a series win or loss for either team but it certainly won't hurt the Ducks chances having a fully recovered Oettinger in the pipes moving forward. Oilers still with 2 more kicks at the can up 3-2 and headed home!
Sharks 4
Flames 1
Like the Ducks above the Sharks needed this win to stay alive and like the Ducks above they got it. Unlike the Ducks above however the Sharks were outclassed most of the evening surrendering 46 shots on goal and were forced to rely on the very strong play of P. Grubauer. The Sharks are obviously a very talented offensive team but this team is only going to go as far as Grubauer can carry them. They clearly give up way too much in their own end to win a shootout every night and there is no "easy out" teams to rely on in the playoffs. Sharks living dangerously but alive headed to San Jose down 3-2
Wild 4
Stars 5 (OT)
The WTF series continued in Dallas with the powerhouse Stars hosting a surprisingly stubborn Wild squad and this game was no exception. The defensive minded Stars were anything but and a rather unexpected 6 goals combined first period was the result. Both teams settled down considerably after the crazy first with the Wild scoring once in the second and Dallas scoring once in the third to send it to overtime. Here comes the WTF part....one of the best defensive teams in Dallas... at home ...in the playoffs was having their ass's handed to them being outshot 13-6 in the extra frame and if not for stellar goaltending should have been in the very improbable position of trailing late into the series. Instead Carl Soderberg netted his third of the playoffs late into the frame to send the home crowd home happy and push Minnesota to the brink of elimination. Dallas up 3-2
Blues 2
Hawks 7
Well, a six goal first period usually results in a win and tonight was no exception as Chicago ended this game before the first intermission. After St. Louis opened the series with 2 straight road wins they have now lost 3 straight with each loss looking worse than the previous one. The good news if you are a Blues fan is that starter Jarry got pulled so early that he will be back to 100% for Game 6 and likely fine for Game 7 if they can extend the series. The bad news for St.Louis is they completely pissed away an exceptional start and Chicago appears to have found the winning formula putting back-up C.Desmith between the pipes sitting with a 3-0 playoff record. Game 6 back in St.Louis with Chicago now up 3-2
