Daily Recap
East
Flyers 2
Caps 3 (OT)
The "Balogna Series" resumed in Washington with the hometown Caps escaping with a narrow 3-2 overtime win but in all fairness this game wasn't close anywhere but on the scoresheet. Washington came out strong and finished with a decided edge in shots and chances but once again back-up tender Chris Driedger held the Flyers in it. This series looked over before it got started but the heroics of Driedger have made it a very tight series after all....must be the old "horses for courses" analogy as the Caps clearly struggle against him! The Flyers are now heading back to Philly looking to even things up on home ice again trailing 3-2
Isles 6
Canes 2
The tilted ice game of the night took place in Carolina where the host Canes had a chance to eliminate GM Blueballs and his Isles. The game started out well enough for the home side outshooting the visitors 15-11 but when New York exited the second period with a 3-1 lead Carolina appeared to just shut it down and get ready for Game 6. To the dismay of the home crowd Carolina got fed in the third getting outshot 18-5 and 42-30 overall. The good news for Carolina was C. Talbot was given a surprise night off so a stunned J.Bernier was the one left hanging meaning a 100% healthy Talbot for Game 6 and 7 if neccessary! When asked about the Talbot benching GM Rich smiled and said "the Isles are a great team and we knew we were getting their best game tonight....we want our best at their best when we need them and now we have that going into Game 6!" Isles alive and heading home down 3-2
CBJ 1
Bruins 2 (OT)
Yet another series in the East is going at least 6 Games continuing a trend of competetive match-ups (save Montreal). This low scoring affair was certainly not a boring game as both squads came to play and traded chances all night long. Both goalies were determined not to be the reason their team lost but the reason that they won and neither deserved to take a loss on this night. The shots for the night were 42-40 in favor of the Bruins but it was the last one that mattered sending the Boston crowd into a frenzy and taking the monkey off of the back of Johnny hockey. It was Gaudreaus first of the playoffs and gives Boston their first lead of the series now heading to Columbus up 3-2
