West Round 1 ends
Oilers 5
Ducks 2
So who saw this coming?? After letting the Ducks off the mat blowing a 3-1 series lead and heading back to Anaheim all the "smart money" had to be on the surging Ducks. The Ducks came out flying in this game looking to put a stamp on this series but as the old saying goes " you can't win a game in the first period but you can lose one" came to fruition here. After outshooting Edmonton 22-6 in the first the Ducks somehow entered the dressing room down 1-0 and that appears to have sucked the life out of them. Edmonton took over in the second and third periods outshooting the Ducks 30-16 the rest of the way while converting 3 PP opportunities. This was a very difficult series for both clubs but ultimately this Game 7 was decided between the pipes as C.Hellybuyck stopped 36 pucks while J.Oettinger allowed 4 goals on just 15 shots before getting the hook. Oilers move on after a 4-3 series win.
Blues 4
Hawks 2
Another Game 7 and another road win! This time however we go back to the WTF?? After a very intense first period for both clubs and shots being 15-14 in favor of the Blues we headed into the intermission tied at 2....nothing bizarre there! The teams came out for the second period and the Blackhawks took control having chance after chance and then carried that play into the third. Chicago outshot the visiting Blues 37-23 in the final 2 frames and 51-38 overall but were outscored 2-0 before falling 4-2. Just like the previous game above there is 1 reason one team advanced and the other did not and that was the Game Star playing goal as the better team did not win tonight! Great series from all the Western teams as all the series were extremely competeive and could have gone either way! Blues moving on
