The Eastern Finals kicked off in Carolina and unlike the Semi's this series kicked off with a banger of a game. Both squads had their moments in this one as the Habs jumped out to a 2-0 lead before the game was 7 minutes old but that was the last we would see on the scoresheet the rest of regulation. Carolina steadied the ship and chipped away at the Montreal lead getting back to even terms in the second. The third period was Carolina's best outshooting Montreal 15-11 but couldn't sneak the go ahead tally by. Overtime was a completely different story however as Montreal immediately jumped out of the gate forcing A. Copp into a tripping penalty which was paid for with a Game 1 loss. Montreal steals home ice and is still undefeated heading to Game 2.
