East Finals
Canes 3 (OT)
Habs 2
The demons have been fully exorcised for this Carolina squad!! After years of disappointing playoff losses to either these Habs or "Blue Balls" Isles Carolina has disposed of both of them in the same run enroute to a date in the BRHL Cup Finals. This certainly was no easy feat as the Isles took Carolina to 7 games while these Habs forced them to 6 and required overtime to finally get it done! In a surprising move Carolina started back-up J. Bernier and appeared to switch strategy as well. When asked about this GM Rich had this to say " We felt that after Montreal struggled in the previous game offensively that they would try something a little different so we switched to a defense first approach anticipating this. Putting Bernier in was a low risk move as he has proven all season to be more than capable but that also allowed us to have a rested C.Talbot for Game 7 if that was required" . Both of these moves paid dividends as Bernier was solid in goal and despite a sloppy first period the defensive approach led to a 43-17 shot advantage from Period 2 until the end of the game. Had Carolina some how managed to piss this game away it could have been a disaster for their confidence but as they say " All's well that ends well" and it ended well for Carolina. Carolina punches their ticket to the dance with a 4-2 series win and awaits the winner of Blues/Flames.
