Game 5 took place back in St. Louis with the Blues looking to end it on home ice but Carolina had other ideas trying to force a Game 6 in Raleigh. In the end it was Carolina getting their way with a dramatic overtime victory. Apparently the key to success in this series is to get outplayed and outshot and you get rewarded with the victory! Carolina was full value for a lead through 2 periods up 2-1 and outshooting the home side 27-20 but were lucky to make the overtime session after being dominated in the third. St. Louis pushed hard for the tieing goal and then continued to press their advantage outshooting the Canes 16-4  but couldn't net the go ahead tally. C.Talbot held the fort allowing his Hurricane teammates the opportunity to regroup and try their hand in overtime and was rewarded by S. Monahan who decided to make an appearance these playoffs scoring his first. Carolina digs deep and heading home looking to even things back up still trailing 3-2.
