An Update on Some Current Trade Candidates
Taking a look at some of the big names currently being discussed as the deadline approaches.
Dylan Larkin
GM Garrett has stated, and I quote "For anyone interested in Larkin, refer to the Mctavish price and add to it." I'll translate: He isn't moving any time soon, but Garrett will eventually move him to his brother at a deeply discounted price. Refer to Drew Doughty.
William Nylander (AKA - Bill Nye the Science Guy)
See Larkin, Dylan.
Brayden Schenn
The Habs have announced they might move Schenn for futures. While a few teams have kicked tires on this one, nothing seems iminent. In all honestly, it likely doesn't make a ton of sense for a team that is in their compete window to move a player like Schenn unless there are more dominoes to fall if he were to be traded. Most likely trade partners would be teams like Calgary, Minnesota and Tampa who have indicated a desire to add. I'm gonna say that Tampa, with a package including Tolvanen could make some sense here.
Tyler Bertuzzi / Andre Burakovsky
A few teams have kicked tires on one or both fo these two. I expect at least one to move before the deadline, and Rumpy will find a way to add yet another 2024 1st to his collection. Rumpy will probably have to add a pick in the package, but with a chance to get another lottery ticket in the Bedard sweeps, it does make sense for him. I think the Sharks hook up with the Kings on this one, moving 2024 FLA 1 in a deal for Bura.
Leon Draisaitl
The biggest name currently being discussed has got to be Drai. Rumours are that the Sens are looking to make a "homer" trade, and pick up one or more key NHL Sens. In my opinion, this narrows the options down to three teams.
Calgary could make a pitch involving potentially both Drake Batherson and Alex Debrincat. He also has Pinto he could throw in there. In many ways, this could make a a ton of sense for both teams, but I'm just not convinced Kev would part with the youth/picks that Steph would want in return for Drai.
New Jersey could offer Stutzle in a deal for Drai. I think I'll cut this idea of right here, as I really don't think this makes sense for the Devils, who are looking more towards youth now, so adding Drai and moving Jimmy Stu just doesn't make sense.
Seattle could offer Chabot ++++. In my opinion, this is the deal that gets done. Seattle has the assets to land Drai, and Chabot wouldn't even be the main piece IMO. Chabot will likely never be a good SIM player, but with Steph being blinded by his Sens glasses and Rex able to add a bunch of other pieces (1sts, solid prospects, young goalies, you name it...), I feel there is a deal to be made here.
