Trade Chatter
What's the latest trade chatter as we enter the final week before the deadline.
OK, so here we go with an update on some current teams and players as we approach the deadline.
Colorado Avalanche
The aves are said to be shopping both Jonathan Drouin and Pavel Francouz. The ask? A d-man with term or pick(s). Drouin is an enigma and Francouz is trash, so it's hard to say where these guys may end up, if they get moved at all. I could see a Habs homer like Jared or Steve taking a flyer on Drouin if they could get him cheap. For Francouz, considering the goalie trade market is super quiet, I expect he ends up sticking around in Colorado.
Buffalo Sabres
This team has come back down to earth, and at this point is going to try to sell off whatever they can. Lafferty is already gone, and I expect that a bubble team with a bit of cap space may take on Bailey. A team like the Panthers or Predators come to mind here. Not sure he will be able to move OEL, Rempal or Meloch, but you never know.
Washington Capitals
Zegras, Zegras Zegras. To be honest, I doubt that a deal happens here, but this is the most interesting name being thrown around in Washington. I could still see him ending up with Devon, but at this pont, when the Caps are being offered old d-men or shitty young forwards and middle-round picks - it's not happening! I know Larry would love to add another Jarvis for Dvorak or Thomas for Verhaeghe or Buchnevich.
Mark Stone
I'm so confused. I don't know who owns him, and who doesn't. That said, he'll likely get traded for a 2nd at some point. Again, look at bubble teams with cap space like the Preds or Panthers.
LA Kings
Rumpy has made it clear he is willing to move anybody if he can acquire more 2024 1st. He is hoping to get as many tickets to the Bedard lottery as he can, and I don't blame him. I anticipate that despite his slow NHL season, Bertuzzi will absoloutely move, given his low salary. Just about any team could take him on. I'm thinking likely the Oilers or Habs will nab him. I also expect that Burakovsky will be moved - likely to a team with a bit of a multi-year window opening up. I'm thinking that the Lightning could end up making this deal happen, but they'd need to make an additional deal first to land the 2024 1 that Rumpy would need.
Matt Duchene
Great rates. I expect Dan will find a home for Duchene, and I'm looking at either SJ or the Oilers here. A great fit for a team trying to make a big push.
Jacob Markstrom
Jesse mentioned his availability, and it sounds like he was close to being moved, but the latest here is that he is no longer on the block. I expect he will stay, and the Jackets will look to make a long run in the playoffs.
Ottawa Senators
Apparently Drai << Pasta.
The sens will try to move Lehkonen or Pageau, but likely will struggle to find a taker for each, considering the market seems pretty saturated with forwards right now.
Minnesota Wild
At one point it seemed like Al was shopping to add prior to the deadline, but it sounds like he got trade disucssion fatigue, and has decided to stand pat.
Dallas Stars
Junya is quietly trying to add a F. Actually, he may end up with one of the guys mentioned above, but let's go out on a limb and say he adds Victor Arvidsson from the Habs.
Montreal Canadiens
Speaking of the Habs - they are working hard to make a couple moves. Moving Schenn or Arvidsson is high on the list, likely in order to open up a roster spot to add an upgrade. We will see if it pans out.
Cam Atkinson
Sounds like the Knights are looking for a taker for Atkinson. Though he has a 5 year contract, he is more like a rental since he won't be playing this year in the NHL. For a team with cap space, he has great rates to add.
