Eastern Recap
Canes 3
Isle's 5
The hometown Islanders came into this game needing a win after losing the first game at home and they got it. This was once again not the game the Isle's were looking for however as they were extremely slow out of the gate and were flattered early on by the strength of their all-world goalie Vasilevskiy. After 2 periods of play the game was tied at 2 but the shots were 26-15 for the visitors. It didn't look good for the homeside when Chandler Stephenson scored early in the third to give Carolina the lead but New York saved their best period for the last putting 21 shots on goal and were able to once again tie the game with roughly 10 minutes to play. An opportune PP and subsequent goal followed 5 minutes later to energize the nurvous crowd leading to an empty netter and that was all she wrote! Carolina will now be left wondering what could have been if this turns out to be a series deciding moment as E.Malkin was forced to the dressing room just 17 seconds into the second period obviously impacting not only himself but all the extra ice time given out to others. Isle's even things up shifting to Carolina tied at 1
Flyers 3
CBJ 1
Much like the Isle's before them Columbus needed a win at home to gain at least a split with the visiting Flyers but it was not to be on this night. Both squads came out flying trading shots and chances in the first and it only seemed fitting that they would exit the frame still tied at 1. The second featured more of the same and the shots after 2 periods were 28-27 for the Flyers but that 1 shot was the difference as Philly managed to net the only tally of the second. Columbus clearly ran out of gas in the third managing a paltry 5 shots in a game they needed to have and gave up their third of the game to salt it away! This was a game that could have unfolded differently had Columbus not been behind but GM Anthony and his Flyers are getting the better play between the pipes and that is the difference to this point in the series. GM Jesse still looking for answers as we head to Philly for Game 3. Flyers up 2-0
Bruins 3
Wings 2
The third match-up of the night featured yet another home squad looking to even up the series before heading on the road and it was once again the visitors that stole the show. This game had the makings of a 9-8 barn burner following a first period that featured 35 shots and 5 goals ending with a 3-2 Boston lead but that was it! Detroit continued their energetic play throughout the game driving the net and putting shot after shot towards the Boston goal but J.Saros was just not going to allow another goal. Detroit had 26 shots on goal in the second and third with the likes of Zibanejad and Draisaitl leading the way with 5 shots each but the equalizer was not to be found on this night! Of the three teams on home ice looking to split this Red Wing team was the most deserving of it but they will just have to take solice in the fact that they played well and hope for better results in Boston. GM Greg and his underdog Bruins look to continue to steal the show heading home up 2-0
Leafs 1
Habs 5
Uggghhhh! That was the sound heard coming from every Leaf fan following this resounding loss. This wasn't the lopsided affair it appears to be however as it didn't really get out of hand until a very disappointing third period for the visitors. The visiting Maple Leafs had played a very controlled couple of excellent road periods outshooting the home side 20-16 and only a shot away trailing 2-1. Unfortuneatly for the Leafs they failed to come out for the third period as Montreal simply took control directing 21 third period shots on goal while adding 3 to make this game a rout. After a horrible third period for the Leafs, GM Garrett will need to figure something out fast as his offense isn't clicking and his goalies aren't capable of stealing games. GM Steve holds serve and will look to choke out the Leafs heading to Toronto. Habs up 2-0
