Eastern Recap
Isles 5 (OT)
Canes 4
The series shifted back to Carolina all tied up at 1 where the hometown Canes were hoping to continue their play from New York. After peppering the Islander net with 108 shots through 2 games the favored Isles were lucky to be tied enetering Game 3 and because of that heavy workload starting goalie Vasilevskiy was sent to the pine for a rest. T. Rask got the start but this isn't the T.Rask of old as the one in his current form couldn't start for an ECHL team. Carolina must have felt sorry for the poor guy or they caught the same bug the Leafs did losing to a zamboni driver as they played their worst game of the series managing a paltry 26 shots on goal. K. Kahkonen returned to the Hurricane goal after resting for Game 2 and completely shit the bed highlighted by a 3 goal in 7 shot second period which should have resulted in his departure. Unfortuneatly for the fans he remained between the pipes and despite a spirited comeback fell short of the win when the only shot faced in overtime found the back of the net. GM Rich was seen tossing chairs and when later reached for comment he had this to say " We played 2 great games on the road and deserved better, we come home and lay a fckn egg against a guy that doesn't belong in the league and in a series we should be up 2-1 or 3-0 in we trail?? Am I upset? Your god damned right I am!! I have no further comment" Hurricanes now under the gun trailing 2-1
Jackets 2
Flyers 1
Columbus came into Game 3 in a must win situation and got the job done! This was exactly what a road victory should look like and GM Jesse has to be very happy with the result. The game certainly wasn't a great game to watch for the fans and you can't say that Columbus was the better team....you could even go so far to say that GM Anthony and his Flyers should have won and be up 3-0 in the series. The thing to look at was that they played a mostly even game limiting the chances against and expected their goalie to make the saves when he had to. J.Markstrom did just that for Columbus and displayed the form that got this team here in the first place. Once again, this wasn't a knock on the Flyers play or goaltending but in a low event game someone will catch the break to get that all important "next goal", with Columbus getting it on this night! GM Anthony and his Flyers will look to bounce back in Game 4 still up 2-1
Wings 6
Bruins 1
The "wagon" that is the Detroit Red Wings made a stop in Boston and may have just won the series! WTF??? The Red Wings have only won 1 game you say! Yes the Bruins were 2-0 entering the game....yes the Bruins play the next game at home....yes the worst can happen after Game 4 is being tied at 2 so how can you say that? Lets break it down....mission 1 for Detroit was to win as being down 3-0 would likely have been a death blow (check)....mission 2 was to dominate a game with lots of shots (48) to fatigue the Bruins starter (check). Now because of Detroit accomplishing both of those things GM Greg will have a epic decision to make that in all liklihood will decide the season. Does Greg start his already fatigued goalie in J. Saros or "donate" the next game rolling with Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen between the pipes? Let's be honest, Saros is why Boston is leading this series and without him Detroit rolls so ????? I am going with the assumption that Saros sits and we head back to Detroit tied at 2 , that means we now have a best of 3 on our hands with 2 games in Detroit....advantage Detroit! Boston still up 2-1
Habs 5
Leafs 2
The last series in the East appears to be the first series in the East to end as Montreal went into Toronto and once again handed them their asses. This game wasn't close from the opening puck drop and after 2 periods Toronto had already surrendered 39 shots and 5 goals. That was certainly not what GM Garrett and the Toronto faithful wanted to see. The opportunity to make a series out of this came and went with this loss as Montreal is just proving to be a terrible match-up for these Leafs. Not sure if there is anything these Leafs can do to avoid the broom but it is clearly now out of the closet! Habs up 3-0
